Mr. Las Vegas Wayne Newton, who serves as the chairman of the USO Celebrity Circle, will welcome more than 100 men and women in uniform to his show Once Before I Go at the Tropicana tonight as his guests. He’ll meet and greet each one of them and then treat them to lunch tomorrow at his ranch home Casa Shenandoah.
Tomorrow, Blue Man Group at The Venetian will donate proceeds from their show to the ThanksUSA organization benefiting the families of veterans. Generous folks have donated tickets for military members and families at our Nellis Air Force Base.
Blue Man Group have joined with The Venetian and Palazzo Chairman Sheldon Adelson, American Airlines and ThanksUSA to support “Tribute to the Troops,” a four-day-long Las Vegas vacation visit for another 180 veterans honoring their military service. The “Wounded Warriors” flight will have a red carpet welcome at McCarran today with singing gondoliers and a Nellis troops honor guard. It’s the fourth time that Sheldon and his wife, Dr. Miriam Adelson, have hosted the visits.

Wynn odds maker Johnny Avello, director of race and sports operations, predicts that Robin Leventhal will be ousted and Kevin Gillespie will strengthen his lead. *At the Las Vegas Convention & Visitors Authority board of directors meeting, world champion rodeo cowboy Ty Murray gave his cowboy hat to LVCVA Chairman and Mayor Oscar Goodman as a thank you for LVCVA’s continuing sponsorship of the Professional Bull Riders. It was the first time Ty, who is married to Jewel, gave his hat to anyone in 28 years. Randy Bernard, PBR president and CEO, joined Ty.
Hard Rock Hotel execs say their new nightclub Vanity will officially open on New Year’s Eve. … Porn princess Bree Olson has been picked for red ribbon-cutting duties to open the next Adult Entertainment Expo on Jan. 7 at the Sands Convention Expo here. She was the Penthouse Pet of the Month in March 2008.
*The new organizers of their debut Rock ’n’ Roll Las Vegas Marathon set for Dec. 6 are estimating a record number of 25,000 participants from initial signups from all 50 states and several foreign countries. They expect it to bring in more than $20 million to our economy. A two-day health and fitness expo will precede Marathon Day, and I’ll host the bulk-up pasta dinner. Race day starts at 6 a.m. for the elite women runners, and 15 minutes later, the elite men start, followed by general runners. The Sin City Sinners will entertain in the morning. The Strip is closed from Mandalay Bay to downtown from 4 a.m. to noon. Many of the runners have promised to also support the Opportunity Village Great Santa Run the day before.
*Some 1,200 Brits who call Las Vegas home are joining together for a Nov. 29 party at Zowie Bowie’s Vintage Vegas show at the Monte Carlo. The first 600 people to log on get their ticket for free! It’s to launch the Web site UKLV.co.uk for the 30,000 Brits who live in Nevada. After the performance by Zowie Bowie’s Chris Phillips and Marley Taylor with guest stars, there will be an after-party in the Pub, where Chris and Marley have promised to sing all 1980s British songs. Other British stars appearing as guests are Foreigner’s Domenick Allen, Clint Holmes and J.D. Nicholas of the Commodores, plus the pipe and drum band Desert Skype will perform with the 17-piece Vintage Vegas orchestra. Raffle tickets will be handed out randomly for two round-trip flights from Las Vegas to London on Virgin Atlantic.
*Star chef Mario Batali has created new antipasti and wine tasting menus for his Enoteca San Marco at The Venetian. The new taste treats are available 3 to 7 p.m. and again after 10 p.m. at the restaurant’s circular counter. You get three tastes each of cured meats, imported Italian artisan cheeses, fresh local vegetable fritti and biscotti. Wines are from Piemonte, Emilia Romana and Abruzzo. All for $25 for the antipasti and $15 for the wines.
*Congratulations to Prema Zombori, a stylist at Michael Boychuck’s Amp salon in the Palms, who has been named Hairdreams’ top extension specialist in Las Vegas for 2009.
