Sadly, international pop star Celine Dion confirmed last night that her current pregnancy bid with fertility treatments has ended, but she intends to try again this weekend at a New York clinic. I’d heard the news two days ago but waited until Celine herself had confirmed the sensitive matter.

In August, the 41-year-old former Caesars Palace headliner and Lake Las Vegas resident quietly revealed that she had achieved her goal to become pregnant again with the implantation of a frozen embryo that husband Rene Angelil had donated and had stored for several years.

The fertility clinic procedure had taken place in New York after she’d fulfilled all her 2009 Taking Chances World Tour engagements and concerts, with the final dates back home in Montreal. Gerard Schachmes, Celine’s personal photographer, has just compiled a photographic book of the entire 14-month world tour, and these are some of his highlights.

The couple’s 8-year-old son Rene Charles was conceived in a similar procedure. Said Rene, 67: “We take comfort in the fact that we have our son.”

Family friends revealed that the couple initially believed the fertility treatment was successful, but upon checking with the fertility doctor, they were told in fact it was not. Celine, who is one of 14 children, told Vegas DeLuxe that she always wanted to have another child, ether a brother or a sister for their son.

Celine is one of the world’s most successful and wealthiest entertainers and enjoyed five years of sell-out concerts here at The Colosseum in Caesars Palace. Insiders had confirmed to me that she was planning a return here, joining the on-off schedules of Cher and other guest stars until a new star fills the vacant slots of Sir Elton John, who left this year, and Bette Midler, who wraps up her two-year contract in January.

Plans were that Celine would resume her Caesars Palace run on New Year’s Eve next year, but the news of the failed pregnancy and her determination to try again this weekend will probably delay the timetable.
