Flamingo headliner Donny Osmond laughingly predicted when Dancing With the Stars’ Season 9 got underway in August that a final of Osmond vs. Osbourne would be “funny, exciting television.” Well his unlikely prediction comes true tonight when he and Kelly Osbourne do battle against singer Mya in the last two episodes of the ABC hit this season.
It’s come down to just the three of them and their professional dance partners Kym Johnson (Donny), Dmitry Chaplin (Mya) and Louis Van Amstel (Kelly). But their 13 ousted rivals along the road to the prized mirrored disco ball trophy will all be back tonight and tomorrow, including our UFC champ Chuck Liddell and Las Vegas Academy’s Derek Hough, who was axed with partner model Joanna Krupa last week in the semifinals.
Said Donny: “When I met with Kelly the first day, I told her it would be so funny if it was Osmonds vs. Osbournes in the final. It’s actually come true. What a funny dynamic! It will be very difficult for the three of us because we have all come to love each other. Kelly and Mya are the sweetest people.
“It will be sad when it’s all over Tuesday night. I will actually have withdrawal symptoms from this experience. What do you do when suddenly you aren’t together seven days a week with a family you have been working and rehearsing with six hours a day around the clock since August?”
Donny revealed that his own family, his wife Debbie and his grandson, will be in the audience tonight when he tackles four dances. “Kym has created an amazing routine for the cha cha. The workout is killing me, though, ” he said. “In the freestyle, we’ll do a high-energy Broadway-based routine with us moving all over the stage and the dance floor.
“In the megamix, we actually do three dances: the samba, the jive and the Viennese waltz. Our fourth number on Tuesday’s show will be one we’ll revisit from several weeks ago, but we’ll hold off those secrets until finals night. This has been one crazy week of practice, rehearsals, practice and more rehearsals. I am really tired. I need to sleep and sleep some more. I have burned so many calories, lost so much weight. I was just swallowing B12 vitamins for energy. I stayed away from the candy! Even the guys in the band at the Flamingo have noticed how it made my posture better and that I’ve been standing taller and straighter.”
Mya and Dmitry Chaplin are part of the top three on Season 9 of ABC's Dancing With the Stars.
He compared his experience on NBC’s Fear Factor with DWTS: “Dancing has been far more challenging! The bugs were much easier to deal with. This has just been the most incredible experience, and I wouldn’t have changed any of it. It has been a great opportunity and very hard to beat. My most fun and unexpected experience was dressing like Adam Ant in the glam rock number. I went all the way with the makeup, the cape. That’s the craziest moment to take away from the show.
“I hope to take the trophy, but both Mya and Kelly deserve it. I’d love for Kym, my partner, to take it home, too. If we win, I’m not going to take mine home and rub it in Marie’s face. For now, I’m just happy I tied with her.
“You’d think the most nerve-wracking part of the show is standing there waiting for the judges’ scores. But I am so elated that I got through the dance, you just stand there numb. You realize there’s nothing more you can do at that point except listen to them. The judges have been nice, kind and blatantly honest with me.”
Donny Osmond and Kym Johnson are part of the top three on Season 9 of ABC's Dancing With the Stars.
Other than sleeping, Donny says that celebrating this week’s Thanksgiving holiday is the next important item on his agenda. “My wife Debbie makes the greatest stuffing. I can’t wait for that. Can’t eat too much of the turkey, though. We’ll spend it with Deb’s family, as my brothers are working in Branson.”
We’ll use Twitter tonight in real time without revealing the scores, but right after the live broadcast on the East Coast is completed, we’ll post a full rundown here at Vegas DeLuxe, with dance floor action photos tomorrow. Then tomorrow night, we’ll instantly tweet the winner and follow up with a brief posted story with the winning duo and trophy, and then Wednesday, we’ll have all the remaining photos.
