Strip Scribbles: High rollers request private Zowie Bowie show

It ranks as one of the most unique requests in Las Vegas high-roller history. Seven gaming enthusiasts had wanted to see Zowie Bowie’s Vintage Vegas show last night at the Monte Carlo but discovered that the entire Monte Carlo theater had been reserved for a private show.

So they did the next best thing: They booked their own theater and hired Zowie Bowie’s Chris Phillips and Marley Taylor to perform just for them. First, though, they had to wait for Zowie Bowie to finish their late Saturday night show at 3 a.m. yesterday. By 4 a.m., they’d procured the Wayne Brady theater at The Venetian with its 800 seats, and the singers arrived with their band for a 90-minute show that ended just before 6 a.m.! “It was certainly a first for us,” Chris told me.

Then in what must be another Las Vegas first, a drum and bagpipe band led 800 British residents living here from last night’s Zowie Bowie show in the Lance Burton Theater at the Monte Carlo to The Pub there for a beer and curry kickoff for the new UKLV Web site. Organizers permitted the Zowie Bowie front-row fan club to keep their regular seats so the record of attending 167 consecutive shows by the glamour couple went unbroken.

I made the introductory remarks, and my pal Scottish-born Domenick Allen, formerly the lead singer for Foreigner, also joined Chris and Marley onstage. Domenick’s gorgeous wife, actress Leigh Zimmerman, has just returned to town after a three-month starring run in the West End production of Chicago. They all wrapped the night in a Tom Jones salute with his hit “Delilah.”

Tomorrow’s teases

Cher celebrates her 100th performance at Caesars Palace, and the first luxury hotel, Vdara, in CityCenter gets ready for its red-ribbon opening ceremony. Plus, the National Finals Rodeo turns Las Vegas into Cowboy Town as it celebrates its 25th anniversary here and starts its 51st year. Additionally, Hash House A Go Go is expected to expand to its first Strip location at Imperial Palace. They do try to keep these plans a secret, but we guess the early morning surprise announcement will be made with breakfast for the colorful impersonators starring at the casino.
