The censors woke up and were on duty for the Dancing With the Stars results show this evening. The plan, per the judges last night, was for Joanna Krupa and Derek Hough to reprise the sexiest dance ever on TV.
Not the case, folks! The chopper fell on them and instead the spotlight reprise became the Charleston from top-scoring Melissa Joan Hart and Mark Ballas, and that jump-started the show with Shakira as the guest singer.
SPOILER ALERT: Please do not read any further if you want to get the full surprise and drama of watching the West Coast tape-delayed broadcast of ABC’s top-rated Dancing With the Stars. But come back after the show to compare notes with us!
There was one immediate shocker also at the beginning of the results show: Pop singer Aaron Carter and his partner Karina Smirnoff were instantly told that they were in the bottom two and facing elimination. Another shock when bottom man on the ladder Michael Irvin with partner Anna Demidova was declared safe.
Our hometown favorites Donny Osmond and Kym Johnson, plus Kelly Osbourne and partner Louis Van Amstel, were declared safe, along with Melissa and Mark, Mya and Dmitry Chaplin, Natalie Coughlin and Alec Mazo, Joanna and Derek (obviously so they can be even sexier next week!), Mark Dacascos and Lacey Schwimmer and Louie Vito and Chelsie Hightower.
Chuck Liddell and Anna Trebunskaya.
So it all came down to Chuck Liddell with Anna Trebunskaya against Aaron and Karina, and in the final moments without Michael to save him, the judges and viewer votes decreed our UFC champion fighter Chuck KO’d for good.
We’ll have the full report with photos tomorrow morning, but, personally, I’m sad to see our hometown hero get the boot.
For the record, Shakira performed “Did It Again” and “Hips Don’t Lie.” And on another note, Jake Pavelka, who was on the most recent Bachelorette, was introduced to the audience as the new Bachelor when that show returns in January.
