Country king Garth Brooks confirmed this morning in Nashville his new residency at Steve Wynn’s casino hotels, and full details are forthcoming shortly.

The residency ends Garth’s self-imposed retirement that began back in late 2000 when the 47-year-old wanted more time with his three children.

Beginning at 7 a.m. Pacific Time, Garth is talking with reporters in Nashville for the next hour about the decision. Then they will join him on a flight to Las Vegas, arriving here before noon.

At 1 p.m., I’ll be at the former Danny Gans Theatre in the Wynn when our Las Vegas media mob gets to hear from Garth and hotel tycoon Steve Wynn, and then I have a lot of questions at lunchtime.

We expect the run to start as a total of 16 weeks of concerts starting in 2010. Garth’s appearances will be keyed to major holidays, and he will move into a Las Vegas home with his wife, country singer Trisha Yearwood, and his three children.

Speaking in Nashville, Garth said: “We're going to take the retirement roof off over our head, and I already feel taller.”

Garth said he has no immediate plans to resume touring and will make a decision about that after he sees the reaction to the Wynn engagements.

“As for touring, if I can’t eat it, sleep it, breathe it, then it ain’t me,” Garth said.

It’s all as we reported here last week -- click HERE for that story. We’ll file real-time reports on Twitter and then update with a full story and photos after the interviews today.

Congratulations to Steve for the coup! The shows, which should sell out by this weekend, will be a tremendous tourism boost to the Strip.
