My friend Stan Allen, publisher of Las Vegas-headquartered Magic magazine, is reporting that The Rio headliners Penn & Teller are getting set to channel legendary British historical crime fighters Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson.
Writes Stan: “With a daughter named CrimeFighter, is it any surprise that Penn Jillette would himself take on the guise of one who pursues criminal cases? Television viewers may see just that in the future, as the ABC network has taken the first steps toward the creation of a new Penn & Teller series. The comedic show will follow a fictionalized version of the Las Vegas magicians, doing shows at night but becoming ‘reluctant detectives’ during the day.
“Penn & Teller will star as themselves in the hourlong shows. They will also serve as executive producers along with Leonard Dick, who is presently writing the show. Dick has previously worked as writer and producer on such shows as House, Lost and The Mentalist.”
Stan also reports that Oh My God is filmmaker Peter Rodger’s new documentary, for which he traveled the world asking people the contemplative question: “What is God?” Among the names who offer opinions on film are Hugh Jackman, Ringo Starr, Bob Geldof, Seal, Baz Luhrmann and our Las Vegas miracle magician David Copperfield.
David was interviewed in his Las Vegas museum about two years ago, and the film is scheduled for release on Nov. 13.
