Tool frontman Maynard James Keenan’s new project Puscifer debuts tonight at the Palms, and it kicks off the first national tour. While rehearsing in Las Vegas for tonight’s premiere at The Pearl, Jonny Polansky and Tim Alexander, formerly of Primus and A Perfect Circle, joined local band Uberschall to jam with friends at the Double Down Saloon.
Tim is a former member of Uberschall (German for supersonic). The improv rock band, which is based here, is made up of past and present members of Blue Man Group and its band. To date, Puscifer has performed only a few special shows at The Pearl and at The Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles this year. Now they are about to embark on their first tour, and opening night is tonight at the Palms.
Uberschall’s lead guitarist Elvis Lederer is currently part of the band from Criss Angel’s Cirque du Soleil show Believe at the Luxor. Every last Sunday night of each month, Uberschall plays several sets at the Double Down Saloon until dawn -- after the band members wrap their gigs at their respective shows.
Our contributing photographer Erik Kabik told me: “Their music is different every time, as there is no set song or plan. They just play in the moment. It’s totally experimental, and you never know what you are going to get. Uberschall has been playing this steady gig at the Double Down Saloon for the past few years.”
Nobody knows who Maynard will be debuting in tonight’s Puscifer show, but Hollywood stars often drop by unexpected to add avant-garde pieces to the unscripted shows, which can run more than two hours.
Vegas DeLuxe will have a photo gallery from tonight’s premiere here tomorrow.
