Whitney Houston in Las Vegas: Two-year deal or a few concert dates?

By Robin Leach

Whitney Houston - I Look to You

Rumors were rampant yesterday that superstar comeback singer Whitney Houston was on the verge of signing a two-year deal at a Strip hotel, while I’ve reliably heard that her eventual Las Vegas visit will consist of only several back-to-back concert dates as part of a nationwide boutique tour this coming holiday season.

Whatever it turns out to be, congratulations are in order for George Maloof’s recording studio at the Palms. His state-of-the-art facility is where Whitney recorded her latest No. 1 album I Look to You, which gives the hip hotel yet another chart topper.

Whitney debuted yesterday in the top spot on the Billboard 200 charts with 305,000 copies sold, the highest debut this year for a female artist. It gives Whitney her fourth chart-topping album and her best opening sales week.

Other artists who have recorded at the Palms with chart hits include Adam Levine and his band Maroon 5, Celine Dion and Mary J. Blige. As Vegas DeLuxe reported Tuesday, Adam is part of a superstar lineup for The Mirage’s 20th anniversary concert scheduled for Oct. 2.
