It was the official arrival for boxers Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Juan Manuel Marquez and perfect timing for today’s Mexican Independence Day celebration. Floyd and Juan arrived at the MGM Grand main lobby to meet and take photos with fans and then chat informally with members of the media.

Our contributing photographers Tom Donoghue and Erik Kabik were up close to the display ring in the resort’s lobby with the casino’s lucky gold lion statue, where the two champions posed for the lens masters.

Mayweather vs. Marquez: Arrival and Media

The fighters will meet in the 15,000-seat MGM Grand Garden Arena on Saturday. Nearly 13,000 tickets have been sold so far, and fight officials expect it to be sold out over the next three days. Dozens of Hollywood stars and showbiz moguls have planned to fly in to watch the action.

Floyd told the media mob that he’s razor-sharp ready for this comeback fight that ends his self-imposed retirement. He says he’s been working out every day for weeks, and for relaxation has played daily with his children -- and placed sports bets regularly! In fact, right after the interviews, he stopped to take a call and sort out his picks for the coming week’s football games.

Floyd said he’s not being distracted by the incorrect media reports about a lawsuit filed this week saying he’d defaulted on payments of an expensive auto loan, saying he’d sold the car two months after buying it, and the purchaser owed the money!

Juan, who is fighting at the heaviest weight of his career, admitted that Floyd has a longer reach in the ring but was confident he can take him. He also joked about his unique training regimen and confirmed that he drinks his own urine to build his strength! By the way, that was featured on HBO’s 24/7, but I think many people assumed that was solely for TV. Juan said yesterday, “That’s for real!”
