It was the first time in Las Vegas that the Cincinnati Reds played against the Los Angeles Dodgers to help kick off the MLB season, and the matchup drew nearly 12,000 fans. Among them were our contributing photographer Tom Donoghue, who loves America’s pastime, and celebrity chef Barry Dakake from N9NE Steakhouse in the Palms, who threw out the first pitch.
It wasn’t just the wind, as the Reds blew away the Dodgers 12-4 on Wednesday. Josh Strickland of Peepshow sang the national anthem, and Tom’s photos included Don Logan, Las Vegas 51s president and general manager; Walt Jocketty, Reds general manager; Joe Torre, Dodgers general manager; plus, Casey Blake, Chin-lung Hu, Andre Ethier, Matt Kemp, Russell Mitchell, Josh Towers, coach Rick Honeycutt and all of the Dodgers. (Andre and Matt are former 51s.) And from Cincinnati, Manager Dusty Baker, Travis Wood, Jay Bruce and Joey Votto.

Incidentally, 2010 Miss America Caressa Cameron on Monday has the honor of singing “God Bless America” during the seventh-inning stretch of the Washington Nationals’ opener against the Philadelphia Phillies. President Obama is scheduled to throw out the first pitch, and it will be the first time in her reign that Caressa will meet the nation’s chief executive.
