It’s Fight Night in Las Vegas, and I’m not talking about Ellis Mania 5 at the Hard Rock Hotel featuring Benji Madden and Riki Rachtman, although Ellis Mania is tonight, too. Tonight’s really big bout at Mandalay Bay Events Center is 17 years in the making.
Our contributing photographer Tom Donoghue was onsite yesterday for the weigh-in between Bernard Hopkins and Roy Jones Jr. The boxers weighed in at 175 pounds each for their 12-round battle tonight.
Bernard “The Executioner” Hopkins (49-5-1, 32 K0s) and Roy “The Terminator” Jones Jr. (54-5-40 KOs) -- does Ah-nuld know about Jones’ nickname? -- last fought each other in 1993, with Jones winning in a unanimous and contentious decision.
According to Donoghue, Jones was a half-pound over at the weigh-in open to the public, so he dropped his shorts, threw a towel around himself and made weight. He also had an Easter basket for Hopkins, which contained items for older men (Viagra, adult diapers, etc.), and Hopkins walked off the stage without accepting the gift.
Announcer Michael Buffer said jokingly that he was about getting to that age where he might be using the products enclosed.

“At the end of the day, come Saturday, I am going to show the world why Roy Jones Jr. avoided The Executioner for 17 years,” Hopkins said. “I am going to kick his ass!”
Let’s get ready to rumble!
