Moksha has steadily built up a loyal following of fans in Las Vegas and throughout the Southwest in the past few years. With the release of its new CD Mammal or Machine, Moksha is entering the next phase of its music career and capturing the interest of larger audiences and musicians all over the country who travel here to sit and perform with them, from Brian Stoltz (Neville Brothers, Funky Meters, Bob Dylan) -- who also performs on the new Moksha album -- to DJ Logic (Jack Johnson, Bob Weir of The Grateful Dead).

Our contributing photographer Erik Kabik shot this photo gallery of Moksha’s CD release party at House of Blues in Mandalay Bay on Friday night. Gavin Lurssen (Phish, Robert Plant and Alison Krauss) mastered Moksha’s Mammal or Machine, and the horn section included members of Santana on Friday night, as well. (They will be back at The Joint in the Hard Rock Hotel with Carlos Santana in a few weeks and also perform on Moksha’s album.)

Moksha CD Release at HOB

Erik told Vegas DeLuxe that The Lyons Den on 91.5 FM KUNV premiered the album April 4, and Moksha brought its album to life in front of a packed House of Blues at Mandalay Bay on Friday night. Guest vocalists and musicians who appear on the new album joined Moksha band members Pat Gray, Jeremy Parks, John Heishman and Brian Triola onstage. The crowd was in full dance mode and on their feet throughout the show.

A regular scene at a Moksha show are body painters, and they interpreted Mammal or Machine with their brushes on the bodies of women on the back of the stage throughout the show. It was a colorful, dynamic evening of sights and sounds and without a doubt the beginning of a new chapter for Moksha and Moksha fans.
