New heavyweight boxing champion Evander Holyfield wasn’t the only one offering a knockout punch this weekend in Las Vegas, as a mix of music acts -- from Robin Thicke to Silversun Pickups to Gavin Rossdale -- packed in concert venues and nightclubs for a spectacular and solid weekend of soulful, sexy and soaring sounds.

30 SECONDS TO MARS

Our Las Vegas Weekly colleague Deanna Rilling posted an excellent and thorough review yesterday of the 30 Seconds to Mars concert at The Pearl in the Palms on Friday night. The band was accompanied by the unannounced Street Drum Corps, and then Neon Trees, the self-described bunch of Mormon kids from Provo, Utah, whose manic lead singer, keyboardist and guitarist Tyler Glenn sported a blond mohawk, a bright red sports jacket and a matching red scarf.

A few notes: When Mars frontman Jared Leto, sporting a magenta mohawk, walked onto the mezzanine level during a faux intermission, he was in our row about 10 feet away at one point. It wasn’t just girls screaming, as Rilling pointed out; their skinny jeans and baseball cap-wearing emo boyfriends freaked out, too. X107.5 DJ and producer Dustin Carlson introduced 30 Seconds to Mars, “one of my favorite bands in the world,” and was two seats away from me.

A few more notes: The liberal use of strobe lights during the entire show was insane. Leto, amid numerous F-bombs and “I love you” shout-outs, ordered the audience to scream and jump throughout the night, and they obliged. Friday’s concert was the band’s first show in the U.S. in three years and the kick-off of this current tour. Leto took a photograph of the audience and immediately posted it to Twitter. (I’m in all black next to my roommate in the pink dress. For real.)

Please read Rilling’s review for a full account of the night.

AC/DC AT MGM GRAND

AC/DC shook MGM Grand Garden Arena all night long Friday, and Senior Editor John Katsilometes posted his story in his The Kats Report, with photographs from Justin Bowen. Loyal Vegas DeLuxe reader Richard Corey posted his AC/DC videos to YouTube.

ALICIA KEYS AT MANDALAY BAY

Grammy Award-winning songstress and actress Alicia Keys performed at Mandalay Bay Events Center on Friday night, and singer Robin Thicke was Keys’ opening act. Thank you to Darrin Bush of Las Vegas News Bureau for these photos of Keys and Thicke. Thicke and actress wife Paula Patton welcomed their first child, baby boy Julian Fuego, into the world on Tuesday.

GAVIN ROSSDALE AT HAZE

Sexy Bush frontman Gavin Rossdale was the guest performer at Conde Nast Traveler’s Hot List Party at Haze in Aria last night. Dressed in a blue denim shirt and jeans, Rossdale hit the stage normally occupied by the nightclub’s burlesque performers at 10:30 p.m. and, accompanied by an electric guitarist, launched into his hit ballad “Love Remains the Same,” followed by the Bush hit “Comedown.”

After a funny bit about how Haze’s stripper pole is actually part of his tour, he debuted a song -- likely titled “I Get Lost in You” -- that is planned for his new CD this summer, then ended his 25-minute set with “Glycerine.” Rossdale was unexpectedly in the arrival/exit area after his performance, and my guest actress and model Shawna Laing posed for a photograph with him.

Wife Gwen Stefani was at Haze, but Shawna and I didn’t spot the No Doubt goddess. The hunky Roman and the hookah lounge almost made up for it.

MUSE AT MANDALAY BAY

British trio Muse rocked Mandalay Bay Events Center last night, with L.A. band Silversun Pickups as the opening act. Thanks to Glenn Pinkerton of Las Vegas News Bureau for these photographs.

With such an amazing lineup of music, it’s too bad that we can’t be cloned … yet … to review concerts.
