This week marks the first anniversary of the Titanic artifacts exhibition at the Luxor, and there’s a weeklong series of events to tie into that fateful maiden voyage and the tragedy that unfolded in the icy waters of the North Atlantic back in 1912. Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition has welcomed several hundred thousand guests, including such celebrities as Oscar winners Jennifer Hudson and Renee Zellweger and Grammy winner Michael Buble.

“The story of Titanic and her maiden voyage is one that continues to resonate with audiences around the world,” said Katherine Morgenstern, vice president of Premier Exhibitions Inc. “Honoring the legacy of Titanic on the anniversary of the sinking is just one more way for each of us to celebrate the ship’s history and keep the memory alive for generations to come.”

The anniversary events include:

*April 12-15: Receive a more in-depth understanding of the ship’s account and the passengers’ stories with complimentary guided tours at 5 and 8 p.m. with paid admission.

*April 13: Tacos & Tequila (T&T) offers a complimentary drink or appetizer to exhibition guests who show their boarding pass.

*April 18: Experience Titanic-style culture inside Fusia on the atrium level with an afternoon high tea. Guests can socialize with friends as they enjoy teas, sandwiches and desserts from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and entrance into the exhibit for $49.

On April 15, 1912, it took only 2 hours and 40 minutes for the Titanic to sink, with an estimated 1,500 passengers perishing in the tragedy. The exhibit features 20 never-before-seen artifacts including gaming chips, passenger personal papers and decorative sections from Titanic’s grand staircase. Visitors can experience the ship’s historical journey in chronological order: the construction yards, her launch, first- and third-class room re-creations, the promenade deck, the grand staircase, the fated sinking and modern-day recovery efforts.
