It was nearly a plot plucked from a daytime soap opera. The handsome hunk saved the day to keep the controversial reality TV star alive for another week. Yes, All My Children star Aiden Turner was sent packing, while Kate Gosselin was safe yet again to attempt another dance.

Ah, the days of our lives and as the world turns drama of ABC’s Dancing With the Stars and last night’s third elimination. Apparently, the entire world thought 35-year-old Kate would be sent back to her Pennsylvania farm to be with her brood of eight. However, she now becomes part of the elite eight remaining contestants on the No. 1 ABC show because when viewer votes were tallied, it was the 32-year-old English actor who was sent packing.

In the final seconds, it came down to the duo of Aiden and Edyta Sliwinska against comedienne and actress Niecy Nash with her partner Louis Van Amstel. Kate and partner Tony Dovolani were saved just ahead of them. Our thanks to ABC TV photographer Adam Larkey for this wonderful gallery of shots from the firing squad.

“It’s fate,” Aiden said to AOL TV about his ousting. “You can never argue with fate.” Or Kate, as Tony knows!

DWTS Season 10: Week 4 Elimination

Edyta is the only dance professional to have appeared on all 10 seasons of the ratings monster -- and has yet to win. Edyta said she’d prepared herself for the elimination. “We had low scores. They count. When you land second from the bottom, it’s tough to make it up with viewer votes. We knew we might be eliminated, but it’s still disappointing. You work hard, and you get emotionally invested."

The Tuesday night results shows are “completely nerve-wracking,” Kate said. “It could be anybody that goes. All I can say is every week I know it’s purely and utterly because of our fans watching and voting. They keep us safe.” Tony added: “The game plan for next week is to keep Kate in exactly the same mood that she's been in the last couple of days. She's doing really good. I'm going to build on this momentum. We already practiced Monday night. She was great. In fact, we were both exhausted, but we still practiced. We got some good work done.”

She admits her scores are among the lowest, and those rehearsal videos show her snapping at Tony (“You’re not hearing what I’m saying,” she’s told him.) Kate said there are three reasons she’s still on the show: Tony’s skills as a teacher, his patience and her fans. “He has really kept me in the game. Tony’s teaching is obviously huge. Seriously, do you think I would be here past the first minute if it weren’t for him? He’s been patient with all my various moods. I’m tired. I'm exhausted. I’m physically present but mentally absent. Tony deals with all of this and gets me to the point where I can do this.”

DWTS Season 10: Week 4

Kate, who has been promoting her new book I Just Want to Know, appeared on yesterday’s Today with Meredith Vieira on NBC.

Last night, Tony appeared in the spoof Glambo: First Dance, which left host Tom Bergeron speechless for the first time in 10 seasons. “I tend to like making fun of myself,” Tony said, and Kate added: “It was worth interrupting practice for.” She has denied watching Jimmy Fallon’s parody of her paso doble to Lady Gaga's “Paparazzi.” “It wasn’t worth clicking on, in my opinion. But I’m happy to laugh at myself.”

Meantime, Las Vegas is well represented as the elite eight dance onward. Our Le Reve choreographer Maksim Chmerkovskiy will be back Monday with his ESPN anchor partner Erin Andrews, and Las Vegas pros Chelsie Hightower and Derek Hough will return with their respective partners, The Bachelor star Jake Pavelka and former Pussycat Doll singer Nicole Scherzinger.

Former Planet Hollywood magic headliner Pamela Anderson, who gave an encore performance of her rumba with partner Damian Whitewood, which shot them into third place, also moves on.

Next Monday, Kate will take part in the movie night theme by dancing the foxtrot. Olympic figure skating champion Evan Lysacek, who leads the DWTS pack, will dance the rumba with Anna Trebunskaya, Cincinnati Bengals star Chad Ochocinco will perform the quickstep with Cheryl Burk, Jake will dance the cha cha, and Niecy will do the jive. Jake will re-create the Tom Cruise underwear dance from Risky Business! Follow my Twitter account as we add the others.

Vegas DeLuxe will be back Monday with a preview and will guess again at who will be the next couple to be crushed.
