The truth behind Paris Hilton and Doug Reinhardt’s breakup

It’s an official timeout for the moment with the second split between Paris Hilton and Doug Reinhardt. But Paris didn’t flee here to Las Vegas to celebrate the breakup, and she certainly didn’t hook up with Kim Kardashian’s newly single ex Reggie Bush while they were both in Sin City last weekend.
I can dependably tell you that Doug is “devastated” by the split. Very reliable sources close to him told me that he’s been in tears and begging Paris to get back together. But I am assured that the current romance has run its course: “Paris is over it and wants to move on.”
As Doug told Vegas DeLuxe on their last visit to Las Vegas together, he was planning to pop the question in “a quieter, more romantic” spot than a Tao nightclub party here at The Venetian.
It’s believed that they went off to the island of Anguilla in the Caribbean shortly before Easter where he proposed, but I’m reliably told that he put a lot of pressure on Paris to pick a wedding date, and the demands put so much stress into the honeymoon-styled vacation that they returned home via Miami -- and she decided that she was finished.
Paris spent Easter with her sister Nicky and her parents in Palm Springs, Calif., while Doug headed to Aspen, Colo., to be with his family. It’s the first time they’d been apart in nearly a year. During their split, Paris, who used to tweet regularly about their activities together, has not used Twitter to mention him since last month.
She’s also been a single girl hunting for a summer mansion in Malibu and was seen one night as a guest where former boyfriend Benji Madden was the deejay. But lest that spark more tabloid tales, let me assure you that Paris considers him a good friend, and that is it.
Paris is far busier as an entrepreneur with her many and varied business enterprises than the perceived party girl of all the headlines. She recently had to post a Twitter denial from Las Vegas about reports linking her to New Orleans Saints star Reggie. They’d both turned up separately at two Las Vegas birthday parties: one for Mark Sudach at Wet Republic in MGM Grand and another for Tao owner Jason Strauss in his Venetian nightclub.
I originally reported from Wet Republic that they were not partying together. In fact, Paris, who wore a knockout chocolate and gold cover-up over a sizzling color-coordinated bikini, played Cristal pong, and it was Khloe Kardashian who pushed Reggie into the pool. The real story of Reggie’s visit here is that he spent most of his time with country music newcomer Jessie James first at Coyote Ugly in New York-New York, where she performed and hosted, and then 24 hours later in a cabana at the Venus topless pool complex in Caesars Palace.
The truth is that neither Paris nor Reggie even spoke to each other. On several gossip blogs, the angle of photos made it look as if they were at the same table drinking champagne. However, they were at separate tables and remained apart. Reggie was with Jamie Foxx, and Paris was with sister Nicky. Paris even sent out a tweet: “The story is a ridiculous lie. It’s 100% false. Can’t a girl have a night out in Las Vegas with her sister without fake stories being posted?”
However, the same blogs interpreted that to mean it was a reference to her and Doug and not to put a stop to the Reggie rumor, as was intended.
One reliable insider in the party group told me: “There was absolutely nothing between Paris and Reggie. Not even a conversation. Everybody got that wrong. Paris was just with her family for a nice dinner of her favorite Italian food at Lavo.”
While Paris was in Las Vegas, she also remained solo for a late dinner, after her TV commercial filming, at Dos Caminos in the Palazzo. She tried to remain under the radar wearing a hat and sunglasses.
One friend of Paris’ who was with her here told me: “There was trouble in paradise on their getaway. She hasn’t discussed it or mentioned what went on, though. She’s just not talking about Doug and what’s happening. It’s a good thing they are taking a break.
“Paris really cares for Doug. She wants only the best for him. But she’s an Aquarius. She’s not ready to be tied down yet. Her business ventures are a top priority at the moment. She has a new reality TV series to get ready. She has a new hair care product line that she came to Las Vegas for to film the launch commercials. She has her new fragrance called Tease coming out soon, and the new eyeglass collection is a spring sensation.
Paris Hilton models her new line of sunglasses at the Hard Rock Pool.
“Paris is very serious, hard-working, very dedicated and disciplined when it comes to business. Yes, she wants the white picket fence, but she’s just not 100 percent convinced at this moment that it’s completely right or it’s the right time.
“We’re just all looking forward to seeing the newly single Paris!”
Doug has confirmed the second breakup after a year of dating. He said: “We have decided to split, but I continue to wish her only the best.”
