DWTS photos: ‘Catatonic’ Kate strolls her way to last place again

It was Movie Night on ABC’s Dancing With the Stars last night, and viewers had among their choices a sexy tango to Pretty Woman, a fluid rumba to Armageddon(!), a pants-less tribute to Risky Business and a horror remake of The Breakfast Club.

Comedienne and actress Niecy Nash, with Louis Van Amstel in matching yellow, started out the night with a jive to “La Bamba” from La Bamba. Niecy planted a big red-lipstick kiss on judge Len Goodman’s forehead at the end of the performance, and the judges said the dance had energy and personality, as well as the “bouncing of (Niecy’s) bazookas.” (During Charo’s recent guest-starring stint, she called actress Pamela Anderson’s bazookas, well, maracas.) Score: 18.

Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Chad Ochocinco and Cheryl Burke performed a quickstep to “Bare Necessities” from The Jungle Book that left the judges lukewarm and was a setback compared to their breakout dance last week. Score: 18, putting them in a tie with Niecy and Louis. ESPN anchor Erin Andrews and Le Reve choreographer Maksim Chmerkovskiy fared better with their jive to Chuck Berry’s “C’est La Vie (You Never Can Tell)” from Pulp Fiction, with Bruno saying that this was Erin’s best timing yet. Score: 22.

DWTS Season 10: Week 5

The Bachelor star Jake Pavelka, with Las Vegas’ own Chelsie Hightower, started Bob Seger’s “Old Time Rock and Roll” from Risky Business pants-less in an homage to Tom Cruise, and the judges rewarded his energetic and fully committed cha cha cha. Score: 23. (Anybody else catch Jake’s inadvertently awkward quote about him feeling the dance in his cha cha?) Pamela, with Damian Whitewood, channeled Dolly Parton in a quickstep to “9 to 5” from 9 to 5, and the judges praised Pamela for her characterizations and personality, with Carrie Ann Inaba saying that she wants Pamela on Broadway! Score: 21. (Their footwork from floor to chair to table to chair to floor was impressive.)

There was no break for reality TV star Kate Gosselin with Tony Dovolani in a foxtrot to Simple Minds’ “Don’t You (Forget About Me)” from The Breakfast Club. After they finished “dancing,” it sounded as if there were actual boos(!) from the audience. Len said it was a stroll, not a dance. Bruno didn’t mince words, saying that the dance deserved a post-mortem, not a critique; describing Kate as “catatonic”; and stating that Tony could get more life from a hanger and frock. Ouch! Score: 15. (And 15 was generous.)

To nobody’s surprise, the Top 2 remained the Top 2, although they swapped places. Pussycat Dolls singer Nicole Scherzinger, who said she wanted to “tango her way past Evan Lysacek,” and Derek Hough rebounded with a tango to Roy Orbison’s “Pretty Woman” from Pretty Woman and received the first standing ovation of the season. Len called it Nicole’s best dance of the season, Bruno said they were two players at the top of their game, and Carrie Ann called them superstars. Score: 29. Olympic figure skating champion Evan Lysacek and Anna Trebunskaya performed a rumba to Aerosmith’s schmaltzy “Don’t Wanna Miss a Thing” from Armageddon and triumphed with a performance the judges described as superb, sophisticated, artistic and full of fluidity and musicality. Score: 27. (Their highest this season.)

To recap, here are the judges’ scores from last night heading into tonight’s elimination (a perfect score is 30): Nicole and Derek, 29; Evan and Anna, 27; Jake and Chelsie, 23; Erin and Maksim, 22; Pamela and Damian, 21; Chad and Cheryl, 18; Niecy and Louis, 18; and Kate and Tony, 15.

Prediction: Kate will deservedly get the boot tonight. If not, something is wrong in the world. Then again, she should’ve gone home last week instead of All My Children star Aiden Turner and Edyta Sliwinska.

Check back right here at Vegas DeLuxe tonight after 6:30 for Mr. Vegas DeLuxe Robin Leach’s spoiler-alert elimination story, and we’ll also have the elimination-episode photos and recap tomorrow.
