The Rio headliner magicians Penn & Teller served as the grand marshals when Aid for AIDS of Nevada (AFAN) hosted the 20th Annual AIDS Walk at World Market Center here in Las Vegas on Sunday morning. More than 8,500 participated in AFAN’s largest fundraiser of the year.
The famous duo and star of their hit Showtime series also hosted the Penn & Teller Challenge as their AIDS Walk team, which attracted 1,000 participants who have raised $88,000 to date this year. Penn & Teller have promised to match the final amount 100 percent.
The weekend walk featured entertainment by DJ Axis with special performances by Doriana Sanchez, director and choreographer of Cher’s show at The Colosseum in Caesars Palace; Josh Strickland, Peepshow star who sang Michael Bolton’s “Go the Distance”; On With the Show, Las Vegas’ one and only glee club who performed the national anthem, “Seasons of Love” from Rent and Cyndi Lauper’s “True Colors”; and the gorgeous girls of Crazy Horse Paris at MGM Grand.
Proceeds from the walk go toward assisting and educating more than 3,000 men, women and children infected with HIV and AIDS in Southern Nevada. Details about AFAN’s Annual Black & White Party, which takes place at the Hard Rock Hotel on Aug. 21, were revealed via beach balls thrown into the crowds lining the route. KLAS Channel 8 anchor and reporter Chris Saldana emceed the walk.
