Las Vegas could have hosted its own music festival over the weekend with the likes of Lady Gaga, Rush, Mya, Rob Thomas, Primus, Los Lonely Boys, Coheed and Cambria and The Killers’ frontman Brandon Flowers all in town to make it one music-filled spectacular of a weekend. And there were parties and Home Shopping Network stars in abundance, too.
Following her sold-out concert at MGM Grand Garden Arena on Friday night, Lady Gaga gave her entourage and herself a few days off to party and play in the Entertainment Capital of the World before headlining HP Pavilion in San Jose, Calif., tonight, and their fun included Cirque du Soleil’s Ka at MGM Grand, Tao in The Venetian, Lavo in the Palazzo and Benihana at the Las Vegas Hilton (plans to see Penn & Teller’s show at The Rio were scrapped when dinner ran long). Lady Gaga’s opening band Semi Precious Weapons hosted a raucous post-concert party at Studio 54 on Friday night, and a photo gallery from the soiree was posted Saturday.
Lavo’s second anniversary weekend was unsurprisingly a celebrity magnet, attracting Lady Gaga, Molly Sims, LMFAO, Clifton Collins Jr., Kim Kardashian, Jonathan Cheban, David Spade, Robert Iler, Kevin Farley, Stacy Keibler and Rob Thomas and his wife Marisol to the Italian restaurant and boutique nightclub. Paris Hilton, Stephanie Pratt, Mikey Appel, Jimmy Iovine and Anthony Mackie joined the party after the Lady Gaga concert. Pratt was spotted getting cozy with Appel and Redfoo of LMFAO during the evening.
Brandi Glanville, the ex-wife of Eddie Cibrian, partied with a group of girlfriends. DJ Vice and DJ Eye, Iovine’s son, provided the soundtrack for the evening, as did LMFAO with their performance. Kardashian got on the mic to congratulate Lavo and wish owner Noah Tepperberg of Tao Group a Happy Birthday.
Day 2 of Lavo’s celebration weekend was just as celebrity-studded, with bikini-clad Keibler, Pratt and Glanville soaking in the sun at Tao Beach. Pratt chilled in a cabana with Josh Henderson, and Dave Annable of ABC’s Brothers and Sisters and actress fiance Odette Yustman kicked off their joint bachelor/bachelorette party at the dayspot. Dinner at Tao drew Tepperberg, Lady Gaga (who sent over a bottle of Aces of Spades champagne to Tepperberg for his birthday), Kevin Connolly, Floyd Mayweather Jr., Glanville, Pratt, Mackie, Collins, Annable, Yustman, Bob Saget, Matthew Rhys and photographer Terry Richardson.
The party continued upstairs in the nightclub as celebrities and friends gathered for Tepperberg’s birthday. Joining the party in the club were Keibler, Henderson and Kardashian, who flew back to Las Vegas for a second night after attending a wedding in California. Antoine Wright of the Sacramento Kings also was spotted at Tao.
Singer Mya, runner-up to Flamingo headliner Donny Osmond on Dancing With the Stars two seasons ago, performed two new songs, as well as her hit “Ghetto Superstar,” at Haze in Aria on Friday night. Mya praised Haze, said her sexy backup dancers were “amazing” and posed for photos galore with fans and on the red carpet.
The party girl was back at it Saturday appearing at Bare Pool Lounge in The Mirage as part of the LGBT Fabulous Las Vegas weekend, which included a meet-and-greet with out and proud star chef Susan Feniger at her Border Grill in Mandalay Bay (Feniger competed in Season 2 of Top Chef Masters won by Marcus Samuelsson). Mya also found time to attend Matt Goss’ show at Caesars Palace. Goss announced over the weekend that he will be performing in London later this year.
The Joint and the pool at the Hard Rock Hotel are two of the best venues for intimate music in town, and this past weekend was no different, with Coheed and Cambria, Porcupine Tree and The Dear Hunter rockin’ The Joint on Friday night, while up the way, Los Lonely Boys performed poolside. Primus took the stage at midnight(!) Saturday, and Vegas DeLuxe staff writer Hepi Mita’s review and contributing photographer Scott Harrison’s photo gallery will be posted later today.
The Home Shopping Network’s Live From Vegas week, celebrations and 11 hours of live broadcasts from Planet Hollywood over the weekend featured HSN stars and, among others, Molly Sims, Tori Spelling, Rhonda Shear, Wolfgang Puck, Todd English, Jennifer Flavin Stallone, Tony Little, Carl Banks and Susan Lucci (a story and photo gallery were posted yesterday).
Accompanied by Palms mogul George Maloof, actress Jenny McCarthy hosted the Midsummer Night’s Dream at Palms Pool & Bungalows on Saturday night. The soiree also was the site of Entourage star Kevin Dillon’s birthday party, and his fellow HBO star Victor Rasuk of How to Make It in America and he were presented with keys to The Playboy Club. Criss Angel, Carrot Top, Motley Crue rocker Vince Neil, with a buxom blonde on his arm, and Crispin Glover, also with buxom blonde on arm, attended the Dream-y party.
Canadian rockers Rush, well, rushed the stage at MGM Grand Garden Arena on Saturday night -- check out Senior Editor John Katsilometes’ musings from the evening in his The Kats Report at LasVegasSun.com -- while over at Red Rock Resort’s poolside Sandbar, Rob Thomas of Matchbox Twenty mixed it up with solo, Matchbox and cover songs in an evening in which the weather couldn’t have been better. Funny men Tim Allen, Bill Engvall and Bob Saget brought humor to the weekend in standup performances, and last night, Brandon Flowers of The Killers bookended the weekend with an intimate, sold-out performance at the Las Vegas Hilton.
This week
Tonight, blues legend B.B. King performs at his B.B. King Blue’s Club at The Mirage. On Tuesday, star chef Todd English hosts the 83 contestants of the 2010 Miss Universe Pageant at his Todd English P.U.B. in MGM CityCenter’s Crystals, and the premiere and after-party for Takers, starring Paul Walker, Matt Dillon, Idris Elba, Jay Hernandez, Michael Ealy, Chris Brown, T.I. and Hayden Christensen, is at Rave Motion Pictures at Town Square and Lagasse’s Stadium in the Palazzo, respectively. And on Wednesday, music greats Bob Dylan and John Mellencamp perform together at The Colosseum in Caesars Palace.
On a final note, Elvis Presley passed away 33 years ago today, and Madame Tussauds is honoring the King of Rock and Roll all day long with special attractions at the location outside The Venetian.
As always, a big thank you to contributing photographers Erik Kabik, Tom Donoghue and Harrison for their hard work.
