Weekend review: Paris Hilton arrest overshadows other celebrity events

Reality TV stars did in fact rule the Sin City roost over the weekend, but for unexpected reasons. Unless you live under a rock and/or don’t read about celebrities ever -- are you a unicorn?! -- socialite, entrepreneur and Las Vegas regular Paris Hilton and her boyfriend, nightclub mogul Cy Waits, who had “saved her life” just one week ago in a home burglary, were arrested late Friday and charged with possession of cocaine and driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, respectively.

Post-arrest, Hilton has said that the purse wasn’t hers and tweeted about watching Family Guy and how much she appreciates the love and support from her fans. Yesterday, E! News reported that Steve Wynn had served Waits his walking papers; the Wynn remains silent on all arrest matters. Expect more updates today in this very important story.

In other non-Paris news in Las Vegas:

Reality TV hunk Brody Jenner, who turned 27 on Aug. 21, celebrated his belated birthday at Lavo in the Palazzo on Friday night. The Bromance and The Hills star started the night at dinner with his brother Brandon and his bro’s. After the meal, they adjourned to the upstairs boutique nightclub and partied at a dance floor table stocked with Jagermeister and Amstel Light. His girlfriend Avril Lavigne was MIA -- she reportedly returned directly from Sweden, where she was recording a new album, to L.A. A cake that was a replica of Jenner’s prized 1968 Dodge Charger from Gimme Some Sugar was presented to him, and he professed his love for only one person -- his brother Brandon.

Later in the evening, the boys headed over to sister hotspot Tao in The Venetian, pausing en route for a little gambling. At Tao, Jenner jumped into the DJ booth with Ross One and grabbed the mic. After requesting that all the lights be turned up, he once again professed his affection for his brother and then gave a shout-out to the West Coast, sending the crowd into a frenzy. Floyd Mayweather Jr., Cullen Jones Jr. and Pauly Shore also were at Tao, while Holly’s World and soon-to-be Peepshow star Angel Porrino was spotted with boyfriend Tal Cooperman at Lavo.

Jenner continued his 27th birthday celebration at Tao Beach on Saturday with Brandon, friends, Jager and frozen margaritas and was presented with another birthday cake, this one of him on a paddleboard with his dog Bentley. He was overheard saying that he missed Lavigne and that the only thing that would’ve made the weekend better is if she had attended. Also at Tao Beach was actress Rachel Bilson, in town for a bachelorette party (I didn’t see them at American Storm’s fifth anniversary celebration Friday night, which was unsurprisingly Bachelorette Party Central).

Bilson, whose engagement to Hayden Christensen, was recently called off, kept romance rumors at bay. The group of high school BFFs also dined at Lavo and then partied at Tao. David Copperfield and a female friend dined at Lavo before heading upstairs to the nightspot, while Shore, who hosted last night’s Miss September model search at The Playboy Club in the Palms, enjoyed dinner with friends at Tao.

It was a full weekend of wedding activities for The Bachelor and The Bachelorette stars Jesse Csincsak and Ann Lueders, with a bachelor party at Vanity in the Hard Rock Hotel on Friday night, the big day Saturday at Rumor and a pool party reception, also at Rumor, yesterday. American Idol Season 3 winner and eight-time Grammy nominee Fantasia Barrino celebrated the release of her third album Back to Me with an official album release party and performance at Rain in the Palms after midnight Friday. The 2004 champion, who had joined Snoop Dogg onstage for one song at Palms Pool & Bungalows earlier in the evening, performed a few song and was joined by Snoop onstage at Rain. The crowd, at the Palms for Fantasy Football Super Draft Weekend and Fantasia, included Ashton Kutcher and Demi Moore, Michael Phelps, Stacy Keibler, Flavor Flav, Danny Masterson, Shannon Elizabeth, Melvin Fowler, Lisa Raye, DJ Z-Trip and Soleil Moon Frye. Fantasia’s mentor, Arista Records mogul Clive Davis, who was in town for Carlos Santana’s album preview listening party, attended protegee Barry Manilow’s show at the Paris on Friday night.

Model and actress Estella Warren launched Ultimate Girls Night Out with Chippendales in The Rio, and the aforementioned American Storm celebrated its fifth anniversary with a performance at V Theater (not the V in True Blood) and pre- and after-parties at Strip Bar, both at Planet Hollywood. The friendly and ripped (muscular, not alcohol) American boys spent a lot of time with the crowd at the pre-party, which was attended by Imperial Palace headliner Frank Marino and featured hot dogs, hamburgers and Sex on the Beach.

The Girls Next Door and Bridget’s Sexiest Beaches star Bridget Marquardt was the snow princess for the day at Azure Luxury Pool in the Palazzo on Saturday. Marquardt, donning a sexy ice blue bikini that she designed herself, was accompanied by director boyfriend Nick Carpenter in Burberry swim trunks and posed for photographs with fans and a snowman made out of ice. Check back right here at Vegas DeLuxe today or tomorrow for a one-on-one interview with the sweet and always cheerful Marquardt, who was joined by Holly Madison and Elliott Yamin -- the American Idol Season 4 finalist and she are friends -- at Azure.

Also at the Palazzo on Saturday: Jersey Boys’ Walk Like a Man shoe drive, celebrating the 1,000th performance with 1,000 free tickets for 1,000 pairs of new children’s shoes for the Boys & Girls Clubs, had eclipsed 3,000(!) shoes and tickets by 3:30 p.m. in the noon to 4 p.m. promotion, and a BGC rep said that the tickets were honored for both of Saturday’s shows, as well as yesterday’s.

Also on Saturday, besides victories by hometown heroes Randy Couture and Gray Maynard at UFC 118 in Boston: Grammy-winning crooner Michael Buble’s Crazy Love Tour made a stop at MGM Grand Garden Arena, Ja Rule was at Venus Pool Club and Pure at Caesars Palace, The Tubes were at Red Rock Resort and Steve Harvey hosted the Eighth Annual Hoodie Awards at Mandalay Bay Events Center.

And last night was the aforementioned Miss Playboy Club Miss September Model Search hosted by Shore.

Restaurant Week kicks off today with Wet Your Appetite featuring vendors of food and libations at Wet Republic at MGM Grand from 8 p.m. to midnight. … The Avett Brothers, who I last saw and fell in love with at The Belly Up Tavern in Solana Beach, Calif., a few years ago, are at Silverton Casino Lodge on Thursday. … Las Vegas is a top destination for Labor Day weekend, and Sean “P.Diddy” Combs, will.i.am, Lil Jon, Ray J, Busta Rhymes, Kid Cudi, LMFAO, Tone Loc, Young MC, Kelly Rowland, David Gray, Ray Lamontagne, Melissa Etheridge, Ozomatli and Keri Hilson are among the holiday party weekend attractions.
