Just 48 hours ago, after recording a new version of USA for Africa’s “We Are the World” to benefit Haiti, Celine Dion flew from L.A. to Chicago for an intimate, hourlong sit-down with talk show titan Oprah Winfrey.
And reportedly for the first time, Celine confirmed an exact date for her return to The Colosseum in Caesars Palace just as we have reported for many months. Husband and manager Rene Angelil had previously told Vegas DeLuxe that they would return home to Las Vegas but would never pin down a specific date.
The Oprah Winfrey Show will air the interview next Wednesday during February sweeps, and it’s expected that Caesars Palace and AEG Live executives will simultaneously announce that tickets are going on sale way in advance of the March 25, 2011, premiere of shows at The Colosseum.
At least 14 members of Celine’s fan club from cities across America were flown to Chicago for the taping and a sneak preview of Celine’s upcoming theatrical documentary Celine: Through the Eyes of the World.
The Canadian songbird and international superstar sat with Oprah to discuss the film, which was compiled from her recent Taking Chances world tour and will be in theaters from Feb. 17-28. It’s a similar Sony Hot Ticket release strategy used when the company distributed Michael Jackson’s This Is It last year.
Through the Eyes of the World documents her 14-month world tour that ended 11 months ago. Cameras shot her on five continents and 25 countries with Rene, her 8-year-old son Rene-Charles, her mother and her extended family.
Celine said in a press release, “This was an amazing world tour, but there’s a lot more than just concert footage on this film. I let the cameras follow me everywhere. There are a lot of ups and downs, and it’s very personal. … It’s definitely the most intimate journey that I’ve ever shared with my fans.”

Celine began her world tour shortly after she wrapped her record-breaking five-year run at Caesars Palace. In fact, she’d begun rehearsals for the global hike while winding down her final shows here in December 2007 and started the tour in February 2008. Her final Canadian leg of the tour last March included impressionist Gordie Brown, who currently headlines downtown at the Golden Nugget.
Now finally, after months of exclusives from Vegas DeLuxe that Celine would return to Las Vegas, is next Wednesday’s apparent confirmation that she’s coming home. Hallelujah!
