Photo Gallery: The Strip celebrates the Year of the Tiger

The Venetian celebrates Chinese New Year and the Year of the Tiger with an authentic dragon and Lion Dance on Feb. 13, 2010.

Chinese New Year celebrations for the Year of the Tiger at our hotel casino properties kicked off all weekend long. Our first set of photos was captured by contributing photographer Glenn Pinkerton from the Las Vegas Convention & Visitors Authority and IS Photography/ImagesofVegas.com, and we’ll add photos as this week’s celebrations continue.
At the neighboring Venetian and Palazzo resorts, an authentic decorated dragon led the traditional Lion Dance through the casinos as guests and players watched in amazement. The lion, awakened by firecrackers, is the symbol summoning good luck and great fortune.
The dragon puppeteers kept their stamina up with a fast-paced series of moves until they reached the Palazzo waterfall atrium, where it was time to rest among the tangerine trees and red and gold Chinese lanterns.
Our Merry Mayor of Mirth Oscar Goodman and his lovely wife Carolyn will lead a procession of 120 students from Meadows School in their 14th Annual Chinese New Year’s performance through The Forum Shops at Caesars Palace on Thursday. It’s the 13th consecutive procession at The Forum Shops held on the fifth day of the longest festival in the Lunar Calendar to bring wealth to merchants upon reopening their stores.
We’ve also included our Bellagio Conservatory Lunar New Year photo gallery from contributing photographer Tom Donoghue posted on Jan. 11.
