This is the week that superstar Celine Dion will learn whether her two babies expected in November will be boys or girls -- or one of each. Her husband and manager Rene Angelil was here over the weekend and shared the news with friends.

He also confirmed that they will move here with 9-year-old son Rene-Charles on Feb. 26 to start rehearsals of the new three-year run of 70 shows per year at The Colosseum in Caesars Palace. The opening-night gala is set for March 15.

“All is going well with the pregnancy,” he told friends on arrival here to play in a celebrity poker tournament at The Rio. This was Celine’s sixth and final in-vitro fertilization attempt at another pregnancy. She’s said: “If the doctor had told me that my body was too tired, I would have given up. This would have been the last try if it hadn’t worked, but we believed in trying one more time.”

The 42-year-old singer told Paris-Match magazine over the weekend: “I’ve gained 10 pounds. I have a little belly. The first two months, I really felt the classical symptoms: the morning sickness, hot flashes, nausea. In a certain way, that reassured me like a sign that my pregnancy was progressing.”

When the pregnancy was first revealed, Celine said that the pregnancy procedures had been physically and emotionally exhausting. She also said: “What I love most in life is to be a mother.”

One of Celine’s Las Vegas friends who talked with her last week told me: “She is beyond happy. She feels very good about everything. She’s doing very well. They’re going to handle the arrival of the babies the same way they did with Rene-Charles. She’s very excited about learning their gender this coming week and their arrival. She’s also thrilled and looking forward to the new shows at Caesars Palace. Making that fit in with Rene-Charles’ school schedule was very important to her.

“The most important thing, though, for Celine and Rene is that the new babies will sleep in the same bedroom as them. It will be a family thing, and Rene-Charles won’t get to feel left out. He’ll get the same attention he’s always had. The plan at the moment is for Celine’s sister Linda and her husband Alan to help out rather than having an unknown nanny help in their house.

“The newborns will be almost 4 months old when they move to Las Vegas. She’ll have all her strength and will be ready and enthusiastic for curtain up and show time.”
