It’s one of the biggest sports stories of the decade. You can call it D-Day! Today at 6 p.m. PT, LeBron James, the most-sought-after basketball player in the world, announces his decision live on ESPN as to which team he’s signing for a $100 million contract.
Will music mogul Jay-Z succeed in getting LeBron to play for his New Jersey Nets? Will LeBron sign with the New York Knicks, who saw their corporate shares rise and sink on yesterday’s rumors? Will LeBron bounce to the Miami Heat? Or will he stay in Cleveland? The sports gossip mill is in overdrive with a frenzy not seen in basketball since all the fuss over Michael Jordan returning to the court.
Contributing photographer Tom Donoghue compiled his favorite photos of LeBron’s Las Vegas visits and Eastern-Western conference matchups here. Whichever team LeBron joins, I can report that he’s headed to Las Vegas. It’s a safe bet that he’ll be here for the 2010 NBA Summer League that tips off tomorrow at Thomas & Mack Center.
The games with 11 of the teams that went into the NBA playoffs wrap July 18, but LeBron will be staying on here. He’s committed to host at Tao in The Venetian on July 24, and you can bet that with a new $100 million contract, the champagne will be popping in celebration.
