Lilith Fair: Celebration of Women in Music has been a troubled affair this summer, and literally singlehandedly, long-absent Sarah McLachlan has revived it and kept it going. Ticket sales have withered in the bruising economy, and musicians have dropped out. Show dates have been canceled and changed around, and all in all, it’s been a real struggle.
The Mandalay Bay venue was changed from the larger Events Center to the more relaxed ambiance of Mandalay Bay Beach, but Sarah loved it despite the fact that expected acts Queen Latifah and Emmylou Harris didn’t make the concert.
Said Sarah: “I’m calling this Lilith By the Beach. This is a unique setting for the show.” When she arrived in Las Vegas on Thursday, Sarah sang as the opening act before The Killers for President Obama and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid’s visit at Aria in MGM’s CityCenter.
Contributing photographer Erik Kabik had no time to dip his toes in the water as he was too busy shooting this great photo gallery for Vegas DeLuxe. The Lilith lineup included Sarah, Miranda Lambert, The Bangles, Jasmine Chadwick, Elizaveta, Susan Justice and A Fine Frenzy.
