The World Series of Poker No-Limit Hold ’Em World Championship is at 205 players after starting Day 5 yesterday with 574 and the overall Main Event with 7,319. The race is on for the first-place prize of $8,944,138 in November.

With the money bubble burst at 747 hopefuls, the remaining 205 are guaranteed at least $48, 847. Evan Lamprea of Woodstock, Ontario, has a slim chip lead for first place with 3,564,000 after four levels and eight hours of play, while poker legend Johnny Chan, the WSOP champion in 1987 and 1988, is still in contention in ninth place. Scotty Nguyen, the 1998 champion, was eliminated late yesterday and finished in 209th place.

Among the remaining 205 are 117 Americans, 26 nations represented and one woman, Breeze Zuckerman. After today’s play, the field should be less than 100 heading to Saturday’s showdown, when the November Nine will be determined.

We’ll post the November Nine on Saturday, as well as a story by pro poker player Michael Craig.
