Theo Jorgensen of Copenhagen, Denmark, became the chip leader at 9,300,000, and 1987 and 1988 champion Johnny Chan was eliminated on Day 6 of the World Series of Poker’s Main Event at The Rio yesterday. Day 6 started with 205 players, and after 4 1/2 levels and 9 hours of play, 78 hopefuls remained.

Johnny finished in 156th place. Other notable names who busted out on Day 6: Jimmy Tran (Houston), Robert Mizrachi (Las Vegas), Phil Galfond (New York City), Russell Rosenblum (Las Vegas), Todd Witteles (Las Vegas) and Matt Keikoan (San Rafael, Calif.). Breeze Zuckerman of Moorpark, Calif., the last woman in this year’s Main Event, also was eliminated and finished 121st.

Today’s play is expected to cut the 78 competitors to 27, or three full tables. The 78 are grouped at nine tables today, and the Final Nine, who return to The Rio in November for the nearly $9 million first prize and WSOP champion gold bracelet, should be determined by tomorrow night.
