Strip Scribbles: Sign up for Rumor’s private preview weekend events

Rumor, the new boutique resort from Stephen Siegel and his The Siegel Group, opened to the public last week and this weekend celebrates a private preview weekend for invited guests. Whispering Giants, the company overseeing the private preview weekend, is offering the VIP RSVP guest list to Vegas DeLuxe readers for some of this weekend’s events.

Vegas DeLuxe ran an interview with CEO and founder Stephen last month, as well as photos of the progress of Rumor.

*Blush in the Wynn hosted the Fifth Annual Battle of the Brushes makeup contest and simultaneously hosted a birthday celebration for St. Louis Rams running back Steven Jackson. Steven brought an entourage of 18 to celebrate his 27th birthday, and the Las Vegas native was presented with a Rams-themed birthday cake. Manchester United star Wayne Rooney also partied at Blush.

Battle of the Brushes’ theme “On the Loose in Vegas” required makeup artists from six salons to imagine exotic animals running amuck in Las Vegas. Maile Bello from Aria Health and Beauty took home the top prize for her peacock creation. The contest is sponsored by Las Vegas-based Rain Cosmetics.

*Tomorrow beginning at 8:30 p.m., KOMP 92.3 is hosting a comedy benefit to assist Opportunity Village after a devastating fire at its thrift store. KOMP 92.3’s Brandon “Gooch” Hahn and fellow comedians Gabe Nolasco, Brandt Tobler and Matt Markman are the featured performers, and admission is $5, with all proceeds going to Opportunity Village. The benefit is at Mulligan’s Landing near the North Las Vegas Airport at 2851 North Rancho Drive.

*From Aug. 2-Sept. 29, The M Resort is giving guests the opportunity to win buffets for life, one year or six months as part of its “Biggest Winner Club” promotion. Guests earn one entry with the purchase of any meal at Studio B Buffet, and iMagine Rewards cardholders receive as many as 10 entries per day with slot play (100 same-day base points gets players one entry). The Biggest Winner Club prize includes one VIP Studio B Buffet pass for a complimentary buffet for two daily; priority line pass and seating for up to four guests total; a Studio B VIP T-shirt, hat and M apron; and two tickets to Martini Time based on availability. Drawings are Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 7 p.m. at Studio B, and more than 150 guests, who have 24 hours to claim their prize, will win.

Not to be outdone, Steve Wynn’s casino resort Wynn celebrates its fifth anniversary by inviting residents to enter the “Free Buffet Every Day for Life” giveaway. Five locals will each be awarded a lifetime complimentary pass to Buffet at Wynn Las Vegas. Now through next Thursday, residents of Clark and Nye counties in Nevada can enter by placing their giveaway tickets in the drawing drum at the Encore Theater rotunda until 5 p.m. July 29. The drawing is at 7 p.m. in the rotunda that day. Adding to the excitement, Red Card holders participating in the giveaway who attend the drawing receive a complimentary line pass to The Buffet for the duration of 2010.

A few fun facts about what one can consume over the course of a lifetime at The Buffet, all the more reason for locals to enter the contest: 165,564 Alaskan king crab legs, 3 1/2 tons of Caesar salad, 13,797 pounds of slow roasted prime rib, a 2,299-foot-tall stack of griddled waffle, 3,449 pizzas (based on one slice per visit) and 9,830 chilled shrimp.

*Calling all Elvis Presley fans! The Ultimate Elvis Weekend presented by Elvis Presley Enterprises and Legends in Concert is at Fremont Street Experience tomorrow and Saturday. Among the events: the Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist Contest, held for the first time in Las Vegas; Elvis Karaoke; Viva Las Vegas Wedding Chapel midnight mass vow renewals by “Elvis”; and prizes of the Ultimate Elvis Getaway to Graceland and an Elvis-themed cruise from Jacksonville, Fla.

Lamar Odom of the NBA champion Los Angeles Lakers stretched before the USA Basketball Men’s National Team workout at Cox Pavilion yesterday. Thanks to Brian Jones of Las Vegas News Bureau for the photograph. Some merch of Lamar’s and his wife Khloe Kardashian will be on sale at the new Kardashian boutique opening at The Mirage later this year. … Actor John Cleese was spotted dining at Lavo last night with a group of friends, including hypnotist Anthony Cools.
