New Zealand roots reggae band Katchafire hit the outdoor poolside stage at Friday Night Live at the Hard Rock Hotel, and contributing photographer Erik Kabik was on duty for all the action. Katchafire began as a Bob Marley tribute band in Hamilton 13 years ago before later writing and performing its own work.

Katchafire, whose name was inspired by the Bob Marley and The Wailers’ album Catch a Fire, has released three albums, Revival in 2003, Slow Burning in 2005 and Say What You’re Thinking in 2007, and the band’s single “Giddy Up” was the top-selling single in New Zealand in 2003.

Katchafire toured with The Wailers, UB40, Arrested Development and Maxi Priest as part of Raggamuffin in 2008.
