Sports bars all over The Strip and off-Strip are jam-packed with frenzied soccer fans rooting for their favorite teams in the World Cup now underway in South Africa. The fervor continues today as matches resume, with Brazil playing against North Korea and Portugal battling Ivory Coast.
Tomorrow, it’s Spain versus Switzerland and Chile against Honduras. The U.S. and English teams, who reached a 1-1 tie on Saturday, play again Friday and June 23, but not against each other.
Contributing photographer Tom Donoghue was at Caesars Palace and Planet Hollywood to capture the soccer fans and the stars. British singer Matt Goss, who just renewed a three-year-contract run at Caesars, hosted at his Gossy Room on Cleopatra’s Barge for the U.S. vs. England game, and former U.S. team member Joe-Max Moore hosted at Playing Field Sports Lounge at Planet Hollywood.
Sushi Samba in the Palazzo celebrates today’s Brazilian match with a World Cup party with samba dancers, drummers and $5 drink specials. Because of the time difference with South Africa, games start today at 11:30 a.m.
