It was 40 years ago that iconic recording artists James Taylor and Carole King went out on tour. Then they separated, but in 2007 to celebrate the Troubadour club’s 50th anniversary, they reunited for six concerts. After critics and fans alike hailed that successful mini-run, the idea for a much larger tour started formulating.
Now the Troubadour Reunion Tour is about to hit the road as a rare and intimate in-the-round performance, and it stops at MGM Grand Garden Arena on July 17. Tickets go on sale tomorrow. Joining Carole and James are original band mates including guitarist Danny “Kootch” Kortchmar, drummer Russ Kunkel and bassist Lee Sklar, known in their own right as The Section. Also accompanying The Section will be Rudy Guess, Robbie Kondor, Arnold McCuller, Kate Markowitz and Andrea Zonn.
Carole performed her landmark album Tapestry in 1971, which would amass a Diamond Award for unheard-of sales exceeding 10 million in the U.S. and 25 million worldwide. She was the first woman to win four Grammy Awards in one year, was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1987 and received a Lifetime Achievement Award the next year. She also was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1990.
Over the course of his career, James has sold more than 40 million albums and amassed more than 40 gold, platinum and multi-platinum awards, in addition to five Grammy Awards. In 2000, he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the Songwriters Hall of Fame and most recently performed on the Academy Awards.
Fans get the opportunity to purchase VIP Stage Seats arranged in tables of two to create a venue within a venue, a club-like setting replicating the Troubadour performances amid arena performances. Fans can purchase the seats as charity packages at TicketsforCharity.com, with proceeds benefiting national and local charities from each of the cities on the tour.
