It’s going to be very dark on the Strip tomorrow night as hotels and businesses across the valley turn off their lights for one hour -- from 8:30 to 9:30 p.m. Even the iconic Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas sign will go dark.

It’s all to mark Earth Hour, which is a global event calling for action on climate change. Las Vegas is one of the world’s showcase cities standing in solidarity with capitals across the globe to raise awareness.

Officials from the World Wildlife Fund have joined with our Mayor Oscar Goodman and our Clark County Commissioners in the effort. All government offices will turn off power, and many businesses, apartment towers and homes are expected to join in the effort.

Tourists and residents alike are all warned: When the lights go out tomorrow at 8:30 p.m. and the skyline of Sin City changes, it’s not a scene from Ocean’s Eleven or a power blackout. It’s just one way to make our Earth a little better of a glorious place to live and conserve.
