The first of two Huckabee TV specials hosted by former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee for Fox News aired over the weekend and won rave reviews. Even I received a slew of emails from throughout the U.S. and over in England and Macau from people who saw the two Saturday and Sunday night broadcasts.

Guests on the first-hour special included The Venetian/Palazzo head honcho Sheldon Adelson, Gov. Jim Gibbons, the cast of Jersey Boys from the Palazzo, Monte Carlo comedy impressionist Frank Caliendo and of course Mr. Las Vegas himself Wayne Newton. I was tapped to open both shows and appear in the Q&A sessions.

Contributing photographer Tom Donoghue captured these behind-the-scenes shots exclusively for this Vegas DeLuxe photo gallery. Huckabee producers had wanted to broadcast from Las Vegas to get the pulse of residents and Strip stars reacting to President Obama’s double slams against our desert community and hotel business before he visited here in February. More than 4 million viewers are estimated to have watched the all-Las Vegas Huckabee.

The shows are dubbed “Vegas Fights Back,” and the second program with Terry Fator, Rita Rudner, the cast of Phantom -- the Las Vegas Spectacular and yours truly airs June 12 and 13. We’ll feature those photographs, as well, but after that broadcast window.

We posted coverage, including a photo gallery, last Friday of the tapings and backstage action last Thursday.
