It’s difficult to believe that it was back in 2004 when HBO aired its final 94th episode and sixth season of Sex and the City flouting the sexual escapades and adventures of journalist Carrie Bradshaw. The 2008 film, which hit a $415 million box office jackpot, kept the four Manhattanites alive and well.
To celebrate the sequel and the reunion of the four fun females, Las Vegas throws a series of shopping events, fashion shows, cocktail parties and private screenings all day today in advance of tomorrow’s nationwide release. There’s no less than seven midnight screenings set to meet the Thursday embargo.
This time around, the gadabout girls party hearty away from marital drudgery in the hedonistic haven of Abu Dhabi, although scenes were filmed in Morocco. Tonight’s private advance peek at the Viva Elvis Theater in Aria at MGM’s CityCenter caps a month of “Cocktail Couture” at MGM properties on the Strip. A private post-movie party sponsored by Skyy Vodka, which is featured in the flick, is at the Elvis Presley-inspired Gold Lounge outside the theater. There also are events at the Palms.
Stars Sarah Jessica Parker, Kim Cattrall, Kristin Davis, Cynthia Nixon and Chris Noth are all back and joined this time by Penelope Cruz, Miley Cyrus, Mariah Carey and Heidi Klum. Here’s the official trailer on YouTube.

Former Las Vegas resident and actress Suzanne Somers gets some hefty promotion in the film for her health and nutrition book Breakthrough: 8 Steps to Wellness, which she lectured on last year at the Las Vegas Hilton. Kim’s character Samantha swears she lives by it in the film and hands out copies to everyone on camera. The cover of Suzanne’s book, one of her 19 and she’s already polishing off her 20th, is prominently displayed at the end of the film when the girls exchange copies of the book.
Movie insiders are predicting that it will be this Memorial Day weekend’s box office blockbuster, and the excitement all starts here in Las Vegas today.
