The 2010 Labor Day Weekend in Las Vegas kicked off with a couple of live performances Friday night. Grammy-winning Mexican-American band Ozomatli performed poolside at the Hard Rock Hotel, and contributing photographer Scott Harrison was onsite for the concert.
Ozomatli, who formed in L.A. 15 years ago, takes its name from the Nahuatl word for the Aztec astrological sign of the monkey, which also is a god of music, fire, dance and the new harvest.
Indoor across town at The Pearl in the Palms, David Gray and Ray LaMontagne performed on one bill. British singer-songwriter Gray is widely known for his songs “Babylon” and “This Year’s Love” (featured in The Girl Next Door starring Emile Hirsch and Elisha Cuthbert) from the 1999 album White Ladder. His latest album, Foundling, was released Aug. 17 and is his first Top 10 album in the United States.
New Hampshire singer-songwriter LaMontagne, coincidentally, also released an album Aug. 17, God Willin’ and the Creek Don’t Rise. Melissa Etheridge brought her Fearless Love Tour to The Pearl on Saturday night.
The weekend celebrity recap posted this morning on Vegas DeLuxe titled “Labor Day 2010: Parties with Diddy, will.i.am and reality TV stars” features posts and photo galleries of nightclub appearances by Busta Rhymes, The Black Eyed Peas’ will.i.am and apl.de.ap, Sean “P.Diddy” Combs, Tone Loc, Young MC, Taylor Dayne, LeAnn Rimes, Lil Jon, Kelly Rowland, Keri Hilson and LMFAO.
