Celebrity preview: Comedy, music, Mexican Independence Day

This weekend in Las Vegas could be summed up in seven words: comedy, music and Mexican Independence Day celebrations. Whether it’s laughing, singing, dancing or partying, the Entertainment Capital of the World has it going on all weekend long.
Friday, Sept. 17
Comedy rules the roost tonight, with Jay Leno at The Mirage through tomorrow, Carlos Mencia at Treasure Island and Margaret Cho at The Pearl in The Palms. Vegas DeLuxe on Wednesday posted an interview with Cho, who debuts as part of the new cast of Season 11 of ABC’s Dancing With the Stars on Monday.
Superstar singer Luis Miguel returns to The Colosseum in Caesars Palace through tomorrow after selling out the venue Wednesday night. Mexican pop group Garibaldi is at Mandalay Bay Beach, Blue October performs poolside in the Friday Night Live finale at the Hard Rock Hotel, Jay Sean and DJ E-Man are at Haze in MGM CityCenter’s Aria, and Lyfe Jennings is at House of Blues in Mandalay Bay.
To end the evening, The Bachelor winner Shayne Lamas and Dirty.com founder Nik Richie, who eloped here in April, host the party at Tabu Ultra Lounge at MGM Grand, where you also will find the four New Hampshire boys who make up Recycled Percussion up the way at Studio 54.
Saturday, Sept. 18
Mexican Independence Day celebrations continue with Los Temerarios (Adolfo and Gustavo Angel) performing 30 years of hits at The Joint in the Hard Rock Hotel, while Marco Antonio Solis and Pedro Fernandez hit the stage at Mandalay Bay Events Center.
Music and Eagles legend Don Henley is at Red Rock Resort; Michael Bolton is at Sunset Station ahead of his debut on Dancing With the Stars, and ABC cameras will film him during the show; and Peter Noone and Herman’s Hermits, The Turtles and Flo and Eddie are at the Cannery.
Mike Posner brings his Up in the Air Tour to House of Blues; Scotland’s The Average White Band are at Silverton Casino Lodge; and The Freestyle Explosion at The Orleans Arena features Stevie B, Lisa Lisa, Shannon, Debbie Deb, Johnny O, Trinere, Connie and Stacey Q.
Cloris Leachman sings, dances and regales her audience with stories and videos through Sunday at Suncoast. Actress Amber Lancaster of MTV’s The Hard Times of R.J. Berger celebrates her birthday at Tabu Ultra Lounge, with Vienna Girardi, Jessica Hall, Kara Taitz, Jareb Dauplaise, Paul Iacono and Jayson Blair joining her. Siegfried & Roy are expected for a seventh consecutive year to tap the keg and officially kick off Oktoberfest at Hofbrauhaus. Other scheduled keg tappers for the monthlong celebration include Corey Harrison of Pawn Stars fame, Holly Madison and Carrot Top.

Sunday, Sept. 19
It’s closing night for Carey Hart’s Wasted Space in the Hard Rock Hotel with Alien Ant Farm, Deuce, Kinda Major and eEnik. Australian Idol and drag sensation Courtney Act is at Revolution Lounge in The Mirage, and Las Vegas makeup queen Rain Andreani debuts her Rain Beauty School for five days at the Palms.

Entertainment guru Jack Colton celebrates the relaunch of his Web site JackColton.com at Bare Pool Lounge on Monday, Saved by the Bell’s Dennis Haskins ushers in the new school year at Pure in Caesars Palace on Tuesday, Phoenix with Neon Indian are at The Pearl on Wednesday, Jim Gaffigan is at The Mirage on Friday and Saturday, Big Boi is at Palms Pool & Bungalows on Friday, Train is at Red Rock Resort on Friday, and The Pixies are at The Joint on Saturday.
