Master illusionist Michael Turco (“America’s Got Talent”) and Lacey Schwimmer (“Dancing With the Stars”) have teamed up on “Magic and Mayhem,” a mashup production that debuts Feb. 16 at Saxe Theater in Planet Hollywood’s Miracle Mile Shops.
The show is described as a fusion of illusions and audience interaction combined with the stylings of choreographer Lacey, who grew up in Las Vegas. “The time was right for me to make the leap to Las Vegas, and Saxe Theater is the perfect fit,” Michael said in a news release. “I am living my dream and couldn’t be happier to bring my show to the Entertainment Capital of the World.”
Theater owner David Saxe added, “This show is perfect for all ages. Its youthful energy and innovative style will definitely set it apart from the rest.” Lacey said she’s proud to add Las Vegas show choreographer to her resume. “I’m excited to be working with Michael Turco. I’m thrilled to be part of it!” “Magic and Mayhem” will run 4 p.m. daily.
MARRIED AT THE MOB MUSEUM: The Mob Museum, National Museum of Organized Crime and Law Enforcement, Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority and Vegas.com have announced Married at the Mob Museum, a promotion to award seven couples with a unique opportunity to wed, renew vows or formally commit to each another at the Mob Museum in downtown Las Vegas on Valentine’s Day.

Former Mayor Oscar Goodman, who is chairman of LVCVA’s host committee, will conduct the ceremony. The winning couples will be flown to Las Vegas courtesy of LVCVA and receive a three-day, two-night stay in the Cabana Suites at the El Cortez once owned by Bugsy Siegel. The prize package also includes flowers by Gaia, photography, a champagne brunch at Mob Bar after the morning ceremony and a $250 shopping spree at Fashion Show. Winners also receive expedited marriage licenses on Feb. 13.
DRAGON ROARS AT PALAZZO: The Palazzo’s Waterfall & Atrium Gardens has unveiled its 128-foot, 8,000-pound dragon as part of its Chinese New Year celebration -- thanks to Audrey Dempsey for her photo gallery.
The red-and-gold water dragon will be officially introduced in a dragon dance at 1 p.m. Jan. 23 and will breathe fire and smoke during the first week of Chinese New Year. According to Feng-Shui practices, it is good luck to visit the dragon and walk around it three times in a clockwise motion.
SPRING HAIR TRENDS: Hairstylist to the stars Michael Boychuck, who runs Amp at the Palms and Color at Caesars Palace, shares what is anticipated to be the most sought-after hair trends this spring. “This spring is going to be all about color,” Michael said. “Traditionally, women lighten up their locks with highlights, but, this year, we’ll see hair accented with a pop of color.”
Also, Michael adds, styled hair will be on the rise -- looped ponytails and the classic topknot. “Ponytails will be huge this season because they are a very flexible look. Tousled, sleek, side-swept, you name it -- the ponytail can be modified to make for a stunning hairstyle on the red carpet or a simple, everyday look.”
BIEBER FEVER SPREADS TO VENETIAN: Madame Tussauds Las Vegas at the Venetian welcomes the Justin Bieber wax figure to the attraction for a limited run Jan. 25 through March 4. The pop phenom, in a standing position with his hands tucked in his pockets, will be dressed in a black vest by Will.I.Am and Balenciaga pants. The Biebs was an enthusiastic participant in the creation of his wax figure, spending time with a team of Madame Tussauds artists for 4 months.
FROM PALMS TO PARIS: Cort McCown, producer of the Playboy Comedy series that ended at the Lounge in the Palms on New Year’s Eve weekend, has moved his comedy show lineup, now titled Empire Comedy, to Napoleon’s Lounge at the Paris. “I’m ecstatic to bring the show to the Las Vegas Strip and at such an amazing property like Paris,” Cort said in a news release. The first headliner is Harland Williams from Feb. 9-11.
NASHVILLE UNPLUGGED EXPANDS: After more than two years at Green Valley Ranch, “Nashville Unplugged: The Story Behind the Song” is expanding with monthly Saturday performances starting Jan. 28 at 8 p.m. “Nashville Unplugged” is hosted by Brian McComas and Aaron Benward of Blue County. There is a $5 cover at the door, and guests must be 21 years or older.
VINTAGE TROUBLE AT HARD ROCK: Thanks to contributing photographer Erik Kabik, who shot Vintage Trouble’s performance at the Lounge in the Hard Rock Hotel. The L.A.-based R&B and soul band is comprised of Ty Taylor (vocals), Nalle Colt guitar, Rick Barrio Dill (bass) and Richard Danielson (drums).
2012 PROJECT DINNER DATES: The successful farm-to-table dinner series Project Dinner Table is returning for Season 3, and the first one-long-table meal is April 14. Other dates this year: May 19, June 30, Sept. 8, Oct. 13 and Nov. 11. All dates are Saturdays, except for the November date, which is a Sunday.
