Celine Dion salutes Adele in return to The Colosseum at Caesars Palace

After a 3 1/2 month absence, superstar Celine Dion has returned in triumph to her run of Caesars Palace shows, and her fans and audience at The Colosseum over the weekend gave her a standing ovation that lasted pretty much her entire performance. Her talented orchestra applauded her numerous times by tapping the bows of their instruments.
Celine was felled by a viral throat infection in mid-February, and her medical specialists in Los Angeles led by Professor Gerald Berke of UCLA Medical Center ordered her to stay silent and rest her voice until mid-April.
As previously reported, Celine replaced the Michael Jackson medley in Saturday’s return show with Adele’s “Rolling in the Deep.” My spywitness told me: “It was absolutely magical. The audience was on their feet dancing and singing the whole night, but especially during ‘Rolling in the Deep.’
“There was such an excitement in the theater -- in the air. You could tell she was excited to be back, and she looked and sounded better than ever. There was no particular celebration, just that everyone is happy to be back, and the cast and crew cheered her backstage.”
Celine made no reference to the illness but simply said how happy she was to be back at The Colosseum. Our story posted Thursday includes details about her upcoming English- and French-language albums to be released this year.
