An open(ly snarky) letter to GQ Magazine

Dear GQ, We, the drinkers of Las Vegas, wanted to pass on to you our sincere condolences. For only a serious tragedy or death in the family could possibly have commanded your attention long enough to forget to even give Las Vegas a courtesy nod in your article The 10 Best Drinking Cities in America, (September, 2009). Hey, we understand! When drunk—and, hey, that’s pretty often!—we Las Vegans forget stuff, too! Like to pick up a hard copy of your ... Read more...

11 party hosts stranger than Jon Gosselin

When we heard Jon & Kate Plus 8’s Jon Gosselin would be hosting at Wet Republic this Saturday, we were a bit confused. What is this father of multiples currently going through a much-publicized divorce doing in Vegas? And publicly partying it up, no less? We thought his gallivanting with barely-legal girlfriends was bad enough, but Gosselin has hit a new low and is threatening to take Vegas party-goers down with him. That got us thinking: Who would be an ... Read more...

Black Eyed Peas give surprise performance at Rain

Friday was a good, good night at Rain nightclub. The Palms hotspot made a last-minute announcement yesterday and said Will.i.am of the Black Eyed Peas would perform at the club that night. The announcement was made just before 5 p.m., around five hours before the club was set to open. Later that night, partiers got more than they bargained for when two of Will.i.am’s three Black Eyed Peas bandmates joined him onstage. Will.i.am, whose real name is William James Adams, ... Prive, open for business

Privé nightclub is cleared to re-enter the Vegas nightlife scene - for 30 days anyway. On Tuesday, August 18, the County Commission, acting in its capacity as the county Liquor and Gaming Board, gave its blessing to a temporary license for Privé, but not to the 90-day temporary license proposed by department of business director Jacqueline Holloway. Commissioners instead approved a 30-day temporary license. The commission did so with the provision that further discussion of the Privé issue be added ... Read more...

County Commission grants Privé a 30-day temporary license

Acting in its capacity as the county Liquor and Gaming Board, the County Commission today approved the granting of a 30-day temporary license to Privé nightclub by the department of business license, with the provisions that Privé adhere to the 11-point memo of conditions that department of business license director Jacqueline Holloway issued yesterday as well tacking on the condition that that the matter be added to the agenda of the next regular joint meeting of the Clark County board ... Save Tony Verdugo: Nightlife veteran stricken with E. coli

It’s been a rough few months all around. Just a week after reporting the tragic accident that left nightlife entrepreneur Scott Frost a temporary quadriplegic, the Weekly is saddened to report that another nightlife personality is even at this moment engaged in a health struggle of his own. According to the Web site savetonyverdugo.com, Vegas nightlife pioneer Tony Verdugo was stricken with E. coli (Escherichia coli) poisoning after the nightclub and event promoter reportedly dined at a pho restaurant in ... Navigating the high seas at the Palms to discover a ‘Pirate’s Guilty Pleasure’

Part Pirates of the Caribbean, part AVN Award-winner Stagnetti’s Revenge, the Playboy Midsummer Night’s Dream party washed over the Palms last night. The third Las Vegas installation of Hugh Hefner’s annual event transformed the Palms Pool and Bungalows into a scene straight from the adults-only high seas. While there was less lingerie at this year’s event compared to last year’s whimsical, satin and lace-filled Midsummer Night’s Dream, it was still a seriously sexy soirée. This year’s pirate-themed party was dubbed ... Read more...

Privé appeals withdrawn: Privé managing partner steps down, club changes hands, starts all over

Just days before Privé’s scheduled August 18 appearance before the County Commission, representatives withdrew their appeals of the club’s liquor license denial on Thursday, August 13. “The representatives advised the Department of Business License of changes in the ownership of Privé Las Vegas, LLC,” says Clark County public information officer Dan Kulin, “and submitted applications for liquor licenses evidencing the changes in ownership, along with the appointment of a new management team, key employees and requests for temporary licenses.” In ... Splash down at Mandalay Bay Beach

When the Sunkissed Sunday pool party at the Luxor became the first LGBT party of its kind on the Strip, we knew it wouldn’t be long before other casinos wizened up to the idea. Enter Splash Sundays at Mandalay Bay’s South Lagoon Pool, “The Gay Beach of Las Vegas.” A collaboration between Vegas’ own Eduardo Cordova of Localites (who was instrumental in the inception of Sunkissed) and gay party don Jeffrey Sanker of White Party infamy, Splash takes full advantage ... Let There Be House during the Patio Nights

Uh-oh. House heads have a dilemma: Fridays haven’t been the best for checking out their favorite genre of dance music (save afterhours or small parties), but now we’ve gone from famine to feast. There are two new parties for the house-hungry. Patio Nights at Rok Vegas inside New York-New York kicked off in July, reinvigorating the outdoor section of the club. Bringing local scene favorites to the ones and twos, the intimate patio has been reconfigured to make the DJ ... Read more...

In face of league punishment, Rashard Lewis hits Studio 54

When Rashard Lewis celebrates his 30th birthday at MGM Grand tonight, don’t expect him to do any shots unless he sees exactly where they came from. The embattled Orlando Magic power forward will be keeping a close eye on everything the he drinks from now on after supplemented smoothies led to positive drug test results and a 10-game suspension. The penalty was issued this week. Yet unlike other stars, who often cancel public appearances in the wake of scandal, Lewis ... Read more...

Tao’s Tweasure Hunt postponed due to Twitter hack

Due to today’s denial-of-service attack on Twitter, the group hosting tonight’s Tweasure Hunt at Tao Nightclub at the Venetian has decided to postpone the event until next Thursday. For several hours today, hackers prevented normal service operations to be conducted on the popular messaging service. The hack crippled the site, making service unavailable to many users, especially those using mobile applications. Since use of the mobile application was a key component to the Tweasure Hunt, where participants get Twitter-blasted clues ... Read more...

F#%k Ed Hardy”

I’m sick of Ed Hardy. Actually, I never liked it in the first place. Perhaps it’s because I’ve never had an expendable income. Or maybe because 95% of the guys I’ve met that wear the brand have been giant douches who use more hair products and self tanner in one day than Tara Reid has in the past five years (local DJ Mark One is probably the lone exception, but I still regularly pick on him for his wardrobe selection). ... Too many Midsummer nights: Consulting Shakespeare for other party ideas

If the multitude of girl-on-girl kissing contests weren’t enough to prove Las Vegas clubs might be running out of original party ideas, now multiple venues seem to be latching onto the “Midsummer Night’s Dream” theme. The mother of them all will likely be the Palms’ soirée, back for a third year, but it’s not the only Shakespeare-inspired fete this summer. Prior to the August 15 pirate-themed Midsummer party at the Palms Pool & Bungalows, The Bank threw their version in ... Read more...
