The makin’ of a mixologist

Cocktail snobs, insert foot in mouth… now. Debunked is the notion that an exceptional bartender must hone his or her skills at the swankiest mixology bars in the country or attend a fancy-schmancy cocktail-creation school. Granted, while out of Vegas for the holidays and attempting to find the best bartender in Macon, Georgia, one try failed when the official titleholder didn’t know what was in a negroni — (a test Team Hangover uses as a standard judge of bartending proficiency). ... Gettin’ Down & Derby in the club

Spandex? Tight. Knee socks? Riding high. Roller skates? Five hundred pairs of lace-up, four-wheeled goodness. The Down & Derby disco roller party skated into Rain on Thursday night, and we survived the bash without wiping out or unintentionally sending anyone skidding. (Thanks roller gods!) Initially at the Beauty Bar, the retro roller skating party fit into its new home as snugly as a pair of American Apparel lamé leggings on a skate bunny. Rain already has a large circular wooden ... You win some, you lose some

Michael Coates, from Hawthorne, NJ, was the big winner in the Macanudo Millionaire sweepstakes. Alas, luck was no lady when he took his big spin at the Playboy Club Saturday night, laying his money on 19. When the ball dropped, it was on 24. But that doesn’t mean Coates went home empty-handed. He and three guests did get an all-expenses paid, three-day, two-night stay at the Palms plus the VIP treatment at the Playboy Club and the chance to spin the roulette ... Read more...

Between Hef and a hard place: My “Playboy” rejection

I have a love/hate relationship with Playboy models. I love/hate them because they’re beautiful (mostly). I love/hate them for their ability to capture a guy’s undivided attention (and I definitely hate to imagine which guys are drooling over them and sticking the pages together). Yet, I’m still frustratingly, unavoidably jealous. In what appears to be a never-ending quest to find ways to embarrass myself, I signed up for scrutiny last Sunday at the Playboy Club at the Palms. Unlike C. ... Read more...
