Fleece blankets or beach towels? Vegas pools open in the cold

By Deanna Rilling

Nothing compliments a new swimsuit like a pair of gloves and a heavy winter coat. With temperatures in the Valley currently hovering at the “brrr-it’s-cold-are-we-really-in-the-desert?” range, most of Vegas’ hottest pools are still opening.

Despite the chilly climate, the Palms Pool & Bungalows was first out of the starting gates this season and opened to sun worshipers last Friday, March 6. However, the hard-core parties have yet to start and the complete food and beverage menu won’t be available until mid-April.

Farewell, summer (viewer discretion advised)

The earliest glimpse of an official pool party—and some skin courtesy of European-style sunbathing—takes place on Thursday, March 12, at Bare. For the season kick-off, guests can get in the party mood with resident DJs and an open bar from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The Hard Rock pool is next to welcome the chlorine-deprived on Saturday, though their infamous Rehab party won’t start until April 19 (in the meantime, keep yourself entertained with the water slide).

Opening for its second season is Wet Republic at the MGM, also this Friday. However, the ultra pool is waiting for a few weeks – and hopefully some warmer weather – before beginning the major partying. Known for featuring big name international DJs, Roget Sanchez is slated for Wet Republic on April 5.

The newest addition to the pool party roster is the Daydream Pool at M Resort. The adults-only pool has its soft-opening scheduled for April 2. And last but not least (unless we’re talking sheer capacity of pool water) is the intimate Tao Beach, which has yet to lock down at definite opening date. Perhaps the folks at Tao have stepped outside this week and are wisely waiting until temperatures heat up a bit. We’ll probably do the same before stripping down to our skivvies.
