Mitchell’s Breakfast With the Beatles headed for “The Q”

Talk about going retro: The Beatles are back on AM radio. Dennis Mitchell, one of the good guys in Las Vegas media, announced this morning that as of Saturday at 10 a.m. his long-running syndicated show Breakfast With the Beatles will air on KMZQ AM-670, “The Q.” As Mitchell says, it’s the “newest and most fun radio station in the city.” BWTB will be “The Q’s” first syndicated program, and Mitchell’s show (which debuted locally 18 years ago) now airs ... Motley Crue will close The Joint with a bang

The Joint may be closing its doors this February, but it’ll go dark in the venue’s famed rock and roll style. Motley Crue will mark the ending of an era at The Joint with a pair of shows on February 6 and 7 as part of their Saints of Los Angeles Tour. But don’t fret, music fans. A new Joint is scheduled to open in April 2009 and is due for a huge facelift during the months in between, gaining ... Read more...

Resurgent Reznor rocks Las Vegas

The last time I saw Nine Inch Nails in concert was 2000, when frontman Trent Reznor, after suffering a five-year bout of perfectionism and doubt that would make Axl Rose proud, reemerged with “The Fragile,” a double-disc follow-up to his critically-acclaimed “The Downward Spiral.” Sadly, the record was a self-indulgent letdown — more of the same, only worse. (We get it, you’re still depressed.) To be sure, there were some gems in the rough (See: “The Great Below.”). But live, ... Read more...

British invasion at Big Damn Holiday Jam at The Joint

If you’re a band looking to break into popular consciousness, scoring a track in an iPod commercial is like winning lottery. All I want for Christmas is more Sully Erna (oh wait, I got that already)

It’s rare for a solo artist to take the time to revisit the same location on a tour, but Las Vegas will be the recipient of not one, but three shows this year from Godsmack front man Sully Erna. He first came to town this summer for a gig at The Joint and this weekend will perform at Aliante Station’s Access Showroom and Green Valley Ranch’s Ovation. When I caught up with Sully Erna, he was in Los Angeles, busy ... Read more...

V is for Vegas: Tool frontman to merge variety-show concept with musical side project at the Palms

A small shadow is cast from an opera box inside an empty Pearl Theater. As we approach, a soft muttering comes from the figure that fails to take shape until I’m nearly 10 feet away. “I’ve got to call you back,” he says rather firmly before hastily hanging up his phone. I’ve just been escorted in to meet the elusive Maynard James Keenan, lead singer for successful hard-rock acts Tool and A Perfect Circle, and now also known for his ... Read more...

Guns N’ Roses celebrate CD release with … a Starf-ckers show?

It took 15 years for Guns N’ Roses to release their latest studio album, “Chinese Democracy,” and on Saturday, November 29 Wasted Space threw a belated party to celebrate the much-delayed record. The album was released on Nov. 23, but, in keeping with the postponements that have marked the album’s creation, the corresponding party at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino didn’t happen until six days later. Here’s the story, a few days after the fact. Having been promised Chinese ... Read more...
