Reverb has begun …

By Jeremy Adams

The Downtown Cocktail Room, five minutes prior to Neon Reverb’s opening reception, is like a quiet Victorian salon. A handful of regulars sip drinks and play a card game called Apples to Apples, which is based on verbal comparisons. The Petals arrive, complete with new drummer Christopher Reitmaier (also of Las Vegas Club and Mother McKenzie), and breath much needed air into the space. Despite zero microphones, the duo – here a trio – seems strong and focused in the wake of their recent downtown shows. They debut a new song (“’Till Death”), give the bluesy treatment to an older one (the Summer-Soll-penned “Wolf”), and continue to play as the venue fills and conversation rises. “The best music festival in Vegas” – Heidi Guinn’s words – has begun.
