Mother McKenzie with Chris Leland

”I hope I didn’t fuck it up.” This from Peter Valentino, co-owner of the Neon Venus Art Theatre and one quarter of the Latin synth band Neon Venus, after he accidentally booked a children’s play at the same time as Mother McKenzie’s bonus show. In the end, things turned out fine. Wyatt McKenzie’s band played a solid set of alt-country tunes (at one point supplemented by vocals from Dreaming of Lions’ Chris Leland) and audience members seemed satisfied. If only Valentino could do something about that strange, tin-foil Stonehenge that sits on stage and constantly reminds me of Spinal Tap.
