Ride ‘em, cowgirl

As the Yeller Bellies ripped through a set of old-school country-folk on Saturday, Las Vegan Gerry Kubiak had herself an idea. She’d seen plenty of other girls riding the Country Saloon’s famed mechanical bull that night, so she thought, “Why not me?” “It looked exciting!” she announced. “I said, ‘I’m gonna do it because of my … birthday.’” With a boost from a nearby waitress, Kubiak climbed atop the automated steed and gave a shaky thumbs-up to the crowd. Some bar patrons seemed horrified; others ordered more beer. After a few seconds, she was tossed. Fortunately, she got back up.

Gerry Kubiak turns 60 years old on June 1.
