Searchlight goes Gaga
Welcome to La Casa de Searchlight, where zombies clad all in white appear from futuristic space pods; a singer is unwillingly pulled from a bathtub and offered to a stoic person wearing a mask; and raised claw-hands are the salute of choice. Oh, and don’t forget about the creepy hairless cat. Sound familiar? Good. It’s supposed to. Last week, local rockers Searchlight released a cover of Lady Gaga’s vocal warm-up-esque track “Bad Romance.” More impressively, the band shot a video ... Read more...

An early evening text exchange with Adrian Patrick from Otherwise
Plenty of all-dude bands would likely prefer ladies cheering them on from the foot of the stage, but few do more than write sappy love songs to ensure it happens. The following is an excerpt from a text conversation Wednesday evening. Adrian: If u got this txt it meanz ur HOTT… go 2 our site www.myspace.com/otherwise & listen ... Read more...

Jay Reatard, R.I.P.
Jay Reatard was not a compassionate musician. He acted snotty, looked pouty in photos and was notorious for his occasional violence against fans. But, sporting some of the finest curls, licks and, at least in Las Vegas, kicks, Reatard (born Jimmy Lee Lindsey Jr.) carved out a rightful spot as a modern garage-rock darling. His untimely death January 13 at his home in Memphis has sent shock waves through the underground music world. He was 29. Reatard visited Vegas in ... Read more...

Grateful for the Griffin’s new groove
In 2009 we saw the Griffin, already one of Downtown’s hot spots, turn up the heat by welcoming bands into its intimate back room. While having hosted acoustic sets at random in the past, the decision to fully embrace the bar’s potential as a musician’s haven, offering local bands a platform every Wednesday night, just makes us warm up to our favorite watering hole even more. After a recent weekday stop to catch up on current resident band The Rooks ... Read more...
