Fans want more Frightened Rabbit, but all they get is a tweet
“What the fuuuuuuck?!” Without explanation, Frightened Rabbit has just abruptly left Beauty Bar’s stage, and the dangerously inebriated woman standing next to me is pissed—or at least she’s pretending to be. In 15 minutes she’ll admit to me she doesn’t even know the name of this indie band from Scotland (Someone told her it was The Cold?), but for now she’s screaming in the direction of the band’s exit. “What is this—halftime!? The first band played longer!” Meanwhile the real ... Read more...

Dew It: N*E*R*D performs at Joint
It wasn’t a lack of swagger that failed to draw a sizable crowd for N*E*R*D at the Joint on Saturday night—frontman Pharrell Williams and crew had plenty of that. Likely it was the vert ramps and the fact the concert was a part of the Dew Tour Championship Weekend rather than a typical concert that scared general audiences away—and that’s a damn shame, because from punny, crowd-pleasing opener “Everybody Nose” to the mini-riot-inducing pair “Rock Star” and “Lapdance,” N*E*R*D fully ... Vampire Weekend to play free show at Rain
It makes perfect sense for a video game set in post-apocalyptic Las Vegas to celebrate its release with the help of indie darlings Vampire Weekend. Actually, it doesn’t make much sense—if the band were named Zombie Month or Mutated Human Survivor Weeknight, it might—but you shouldn’t look a gift horse in the mouth. Fallout: New Vegas, the latest installment of the popular Fallout series, is hosting a launch party at Rain inside the Palms this Saturday, October 16, and the ... Read more...

An overachieving plastic cup, a trainwreck MC and a non-stop talker: Notes from Matador at 21
My ears are still ringing from the first night of Matador at 21, but I can’t wait to get back for more sonic assault. I mean, when’s the next time I’ll be able to say I just saw Sonic Youth and Pavement, and my weekend’s just getting started? The Palms is the epicenter of the music universe this weekend. Plain and simple. If the mere mention of Yo La Tengo, Guided by Voices, Cat Power, Belle and Sebastian, and The ... Read more...
