MILFs and cougars are here to stay
I see a new America in which a cougar can be president. Lisa Ann as Sarah Palin.
Since Stacy and Stifler’s moms first flashed some cleave a few years back, MILFs have been a regular part of our sexual lexicon. ILFs of all fashions have started cropping up, in fact.
That cute hockey player you’re crushing on? A GILF, Goalie I’d Like to you-know-what. The waitress who brings your sushi with a little extra swagger? A SILF, Server I’d like to… And of course, there’s Tiger Woods’ great weakness: LVILFs – Las Vegans I’d like to F—K.
It’s all pretty cut and dry.
But mention the word “cougar” and things get a tad less tame. I’ve had no fewer than two heated discussions in the past two weeks over the term “cougar,” its definition and its debatable status as a straight-up insult. I say it’s not — if an older women wants to date young, best of luck to her. The term simply refers to the age difference between the woman and desired mate. Besides, men have been cradle robbing for years and proudly displaying the spoils of their hunts. Isn’t about time women got in on the action?

Whether you think cougar is a badge of honor worn by hot women who can score studs years their junior (Demi Moore) or a diss for desperate divorcees looking for love in all the young places, of one thing Urban Dictionary and I are certain: The word is here to stay. And apparently the AVN awards are in agreement.
Last year the adult film industry’s equivalent of the Academy Awards added a new category to its line up: MILF/Cougar Performer of the Year. Lisa Ann, of Who’s Nailin’ Paylin? fame, took home the title.
“We added [the category] based on the surge of new titles marketed as MILF/Cougar releases that noticeably impacted the marketplace in 2008,” explained Dan Miller, executive editor of AVN.
For 2010, the award is back and will be presented on Jan. 9 at the 27th annual AVN Awards Show at the Pearl at the Palms hosted by actresses Kayden Kross and Kirsten Price. Lisa Ann is up for the prize for a second time this year, along with 14 other very adult actresses, and awards will also be given out for Best MILF Release and Best MILF Series. Miller doesn’t see the MILF/cougar phenomenon waning anytime soon.
“The growing niche gave performers who regularly appear in those titles some great exposure and raised their profiles. Since then the popularity and sales of that genre have only increased, so that awards category is here to stay.”
LVILFs, on the other hand, go largely unrecognized at the AVNs. But hey, we can hope, right?
