Shop locally, even online
Just because Vegas isn’t a town of charming boutiques and strollable neighborhoods doesn’t mean you can’t buy local this holiday season. Etsy.com, an online marketplace devoted entirely to handmade items, has a “buy local” search option that allows you to browse only what the starving artists in your own backyard are hawking.
Here’s just a small sampling of what Etsy Las Vegas has to offer.
1. Olive. Modernize your home by going retro with your couch. Olive sells adorable handmade accent pillows in a range of vintage chic patterns like ‘50s birdcages, bright floral arrangements and an apple or two. Most sell for under $40.
2. Sunrise Mountain Studio Everyone has a go-to mug – the one that your hand just gravitates towards when you open the cabinet. You don’t mean to play favorites, but that certain curve of the handle feels right. Pottery studio Sunrise Mountain sells handmade mugs, pitchers, bowls, vases in the color palette of the Nevada desert.
3. HeavenAwaits. Made in gold and silver, HeavenAwaits’ handmade gemstone jewelry is delicate and completely feminine. Earrings, bracelets and necklaces are all made with simple lines and natural gem tones for a gentle elegance. The shop will also create custom pieces for buyers who don’t see quite the right pendant to go with that airy floor length gown you just picked up.
4. Dyed by Danido. This Etsy shop not only sells handmade knit items like scarves, socks and the occasional shrug, but also specializes in providing other knitters with custom dyed yarns for their own use. “For the bright at heart,” Dyed by Danido’s yarns come in a range of bright shades ready to be crafted into your own handmade gifts. You could even start your own Etsy shop to sell off the colorful results.
